How many years a child will study in a Canadian school depends on the province. In the French-speaking province Quebec – the largest in Canada – children study 11 grades, in the English-speaking province of Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia) students graduate from school in the 13th grade. In the rest of Canada — including British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick and others — teenagers receive secondary education for 12 years.
Primary school: from 5-6 years
Secondary education in Canada is compulsory and lasts from 6-7 to 15 years. Study is divided into the following three main stages:
- Elementary school
- High school
- High school.
Depending on the province, primary education lasts from grade 1 to 6 or 8. In some provinces, the 7th and 8th grades are combined into a special intermediate category.
Secondary school: from 12-14 years
The duration of secondary education is from 7-9 to 12-13 grades. Students study a set of compulsory and additional subjects, can choose a program of increased complexity Advanced Placement. In grades 7-9, emphasis is placed on comprehensive development, education of integral personalities. Most schools provide bilingual education. Upon graduating from high school in Canada, graduates in British Columbia receive a Dogwood Diploma.
