The ability to write legibly and competently is one of the important skills that children master in the first grade. But it's one thing to pick up a pen and start writing letters on lines at a free pace for the first time, and another thing is to learn how to do it legibly and quickly. Not all children are able to develop this skill quickly and efficiently. We will tell you what can "scare away" a child in the learning process, how the correct mastering of the skill should take place - and how parents can help.
What can spoil the gradual development of a skill?
If a parent or teacher wants the child to start writing faster, then the main thing is not to rush him. No matter how paradoxical it may sound, but in this case, speed plays against itself. The more actively adults put pressure on the child and scold him for slowness, the more difficult it will be for him to learn to write beautifully and quickly. Moreover, he may hate the process of writing in general, because he will associate it with failures and swearing.
How should the competent process of learning to write take place?
First of all, the child should just learn to write: draw letters correctly, write words correctly, observe spaces and punctuation marks. In the process of writing, graphomotor skill is involved, which can only be developed through regular elaboration of actions.
If the child regularly performs writing exercises at his own pace, then soon the skill will move from the category of resource-intensive actions that require full concentration to automatic movements. It is important that the baby has a pattern of beautiful and clear writing, which is developed before speed! If you immediately teach the child to write quickly, then you should not expect beautiful letters and neat handwriting from him in general.
How can parents help a child in mastering the skill
The first rule has already been mentioned in the article, but we will repeat it again to consolidate the material. Do not rush the child, especially if he does the task not in the classroom, but at home, where there are no strict time frames, as in the lesson. If writing is one of the problematic tasks for him, then add additional exercises with worksheets or other formats to the main homework.
Pay attention to the general condition of the child and the level of his ability to study. If he usually quickly assimilates and masters everything, then, most likely, a little later, he will conquer writing, there is no reason to worry. But if he always immerses himself in the material for a long time and develops new skills for himself, then perhaps he needs help with increasing his learning ability in the first place, and not working on only one skill. Try to accustom him to a clear daily regimen, monitor the baby's physical activity, his diet and the amount of sleep. Even the games that the child loves can be adapted to the parent's tasks — for example, to improve his concentration on tasks and things or to increase reaction speed. Of course, without excesses: letting a child play is the most important thing in childhood in general.
