The average length of study in an English school is 13 years.
For the first time, children begin to go to school at the age of 4 years (preparatory school), and at the age of 5 education for the child becomes compulsory. As a result, usually students graduate from school at the age of 18, and then enter higher educational institutions - universities.
Secondary education system in the UK
First stage – Primary school, from 5 to 11 years
At the first stage of education at school, students develop creative and research abilities, learn the world and learn to be in society. Children often work in teams, do joint projects, experiment a lot. Teachers teach children to defend their point of view, clearly and correctly express thoughts and constructively conduct a dialogue.
Second stage – Secondary school, from 11 to 16 years
At this stage (grades 7-9), children begin to study a large number of academic subjects and disciplines: technology, programming, computer work, art and dance, oratory courses. The main task is to acquaint children with all directions so that they can find themselves and understand what they want to do in the future.
Grades 10 and 11
Students study according to the GCSE program, study according to an individual schedule, which includes compulsory subjects and electorate courses. At the end of the program, students take exams and receive a certificate of secondary education. Next, they can move on to high school to prepare for university.
High School
In high school, students study according to the famous A-Level program. On it, children study 3-4 subjects in depth and prepare for admission to the university.
