British teachers are advised to raise salaries by almost 2%. The thing is that many specialists quit because it is difficult for them to go to work every day, and they cannot teach remotely. The daily long commute to school causes only negative emotions in teachers and has a bad effect on their mental health.
The Guardian published recommendations from the British National Research Foundation, which states that the allowance will compensate teachers for the inability to work remotely. Specialists in many other professions can combine work in the office and at home, but teachers cannot do this.
Due to the difficult road, heavy workload and low salaries, teachers experience stress, which negatively affects the quality of their teaching activities and affects students. For these and other reasons, there is a huge shortage of teachers in the world, and in England in particular: there is a shortage of teachers of physics, music and many other subjects in schools. Young professionals leave educational institutions after working there for several years and go to higher-paid and less stressful jobs.
But the British Ministry of Education does not agree with the conclusions of the research fund. They said that the allowance they made in 2023 fully covers all the costs of teachers, and schools do not need specialists.
The problem in attracting and retaining teachers is on a global scale, in many countries the directors of educational institutions complain about the shortage of teachers. The authorities try to increase the salaries of teachers every year and do everything for their comfortable work, but so far this has not given really impressive results.
