Higher Education in Singapore for Foreign Students

Modern education for children and adults is a combination of British educational system and Asian values, hard work and obedience. Educational reforms that occurred at the end of the 20th century led to the fact that all educational institutions in the country switched to teaching in English, British educational principles were borrowed.

1. University strengths

Due to the high quality of the programs, the popularity of the local universities is only growing every year, and specialists from the local universities are appreciated in any country in the world. Universities are equipped with the latest technology: they use 3D technology, printers and bioprinters, aerospace developments, and robotics. University professors are invited from the UK and the USA and local specialists. The high level of security in the country is one of the good reasons to choose this country for study and residence: it is characterized by strict discipline in universities and a low crime rate. The country has 34 universities, only 6 are state. Local universities and TOP universities in Europe closely cooperate, student exchange programs are very developed. Separately, it is worth noting well-equipped campuses with sports infrastructure.

2. The cost of studying

The academic year will cost 14,000-50000 Singapore dollars, which is significantly lower than prices in Europe, the United States. However, the price depends on your choice of university, type of program. On average, living in a student dormitory will require about 200-300 Singapore dollars.

3. About financial support

Every university has material assistance programs and scholarship grants. It is recommended that at the stage of choosing a university to consider the possibility of obtaining scholarships and grants (some universities give financial assistance, for example, only to students from Asia). Scholarships from companies for promising students are common - a foreign student signs a contract according to which, upon completion of his studies, he is obliged to work for the organization for several years. In order to qualify for financial assistance, you must submit documents at least a year in advance (the minimum language level should be IELTS 7.0). According to statistics, 1 out of 10 applicants receives a scholarship, and the size of the tuition price coverage is 20-50%.

4. Admission

It may be impossible to enter a local university immediately after graduating from high school abroad - a preparatory program lasting from six months to two years is required. Children in local schools attend 12 grades, so foreign graduates must go through an extra year of study, referred to as "junior college." In addition, a weak argument in English will be a good argument to take the preparatory course. In Singapore, you can get higher education in the following programs: undergraduate, graduate, doctoral studies. A Bachelor's degree can be obtained in three to four years, a Master's degree in a year or three, and a Doctorate will take from two to five years of study.

5. Requirements

Students who have received a student visa must follow a number of rules: the academic load should be at least 15 hours a week, it is not allowed to miss more than 10% of classes, students are prohibited from working. If the rules are not followed, the visa is canceled, and the student is deported to their homeland.

6. Prospects

According to statistics, foreign students have the most favourable prospects for finding work after high school. From time immemorial, the state has been glorified as a large trade, financial and logistics center, so qualified specialists are constantly required in these areas. Nearly one hundred thousand people are involved in the field of electronics - graduates of industrial departments are offered many employment options. Experts in the banking and financial field have many opportunities, good builders, specialists in the field of tourism, international relations, and bioengineering have good chances to find work.
