QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has predicted that the global community of students studying abroad will grow to 8.5 million by the beginning of the next decade. The study is based on a detailed analysis of current global trends and includes forecasts of the dynamics of student migration from different regions of the planet. The main theses of the report:

The main conclusion of the QS report is that the main reasons for students to go abroad are the lack of enough places in their home countries + the desire to get a better quality of education. For example, Nigeria is experiencing a huge shortage of university places: every year, 2,000,000 Nigerian students are looking for a place at a university, while they are able to accept a maximum of 600,000 people. Similar problems are observed in India, where the demand for higher education is growing faster than the number of offers.
