Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), the eighth university in Malaysia, was officially registered on 24 December 1992. A modern developing university prepares leaders, managers, scientists, technical specialists, thoughtful citizens who are able to confidently, competently and creatively solve the complex problems of the future.
The University opened its doors to the first group of 118 students on August 8, 1993, opening two faculties: Social Sciences and Resource and Technology Sciences, as well as two academic support centers – the Center for Applied Learning, Multimedia and the Center for Academic Information Services.
UNIMAS has 2 branches, the main branch is located in the state of Sarawak in Kota Samarahan, which is connected to the city of Kuching by a modern highway at a distance of 25 km. The drive from the center of Kuching to UNIMAS takes 20-30 minutes.
Accommodation, meals, prices
UNIMAS offers single or double rooms, each of which can accommodate 8 students, there are separate apartments for men and women. The apartments are equipped with basic furniture:

Each apartment building is equipped with communal amenities: gym, internet, washing machine, cafeteria.
Activities University of Malaysia Sarawak
The Student and Alumni Affairs Bureau (PHEPA) was established in October 2002 under the leadership of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Today, it provides students with basic services, opportunities to achieve academic success, making the campus a favorable environment for students.
Advantages
- UNIMAS is an ISO certified university, it has received the prestigious MS ISO 9001:2000 certification for excellence in the main management processes - from the admission of new students to the certification of graduates. Undergraduate programs were developed taking into account the needs of society and industry. On November 17, 2003, the university received the prestigious status of Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC): this award was awarded for the university's role in the development of personnel for MSC and related needs through strategic education and programs.
- UNIMAS received the Premiere It Technology Award from the Government of Malaysia in the "Bridging the Digital Divide" category of the AFACT eAsia Award.
- He also received the Industry Innovators Award for System Development and Application from the American Society of Satellite Professionals (SSPI) for his success in establishing a telecenter in the remote area of Bario, Sarawak, to assist the community in communication, education, e-commerce, healthcare, and public services.
- UNIMAS successfully receives research grants, publishes publications, makes useful scientific discoveries. The University Institute of Health and Public Medicine has successfully developed a candidate vaccine for dengue fever together with the international company Bavarian Nordic. The Faculty of Resource Science and Technology has successfully developed a process for converting sago starch into lactic acid to produce environmentally friendly plastic.
Today, UNIMAS' strengths in research are recognized by colleagues in at least three niche research areas:
- Biotechnological research in epidemiology (dengue, FMHD, malaria), biogeography (phylogenetics) and agriculture (sago)
- ICT, especially with regard to rural communication and image analysis
- Biodiversity, natural resources, environmental management.
Facilities and equipment at University of Malaysia Sarawak
CITDS is an ICT center, provides the university with services for the development of system applications for management, technical support, network infrastructure management, security. CITDS also contributes to the dissemination of general ict awareness among university staff and students. CITDS consists of seven departments and one unit, each of which supports different services that are directly responsible for a certain aspect of the overall operation of ICT services in UNIMAS.

Admission is held twice a year:
- Applications for the fall semester are accepted until June 1.
- Applications for the winter semester – until November 15.

For applicants to the bachelor's degree:
- Completed application form
- Certified copies of A-Level, O-Level or equivalent results
- Certified copies of official high school/college transcripts
- Certified blank copies of ALL pages of the passport
- Certified English proficiency results: IELTS/TOEFL/CBT/IBT.
For undergraduates:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a CGPA of less than 2.50 subject to 5 years of experience in the relevant field
- For international students, a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or its equivalent (for example, TOEFL - 525 is required; TOEFL Computer Test — 196; TOEFL Internet Test — 69-70 or MUET Band 3).
