The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a public research institute. TISS is Asia's oldest institute of professional education in the field of social work.
The institution has several campuses, which appeared during the merger of several educational organizations in 1986-2011. Over the years, the Institute has made significant contributions to the policy, planning, development of human resources, rural and urban areas. TISS has earned recognition from the ministries of the Government of India, the governments of various states, the international agency - the United Nations.
Academic programs of the university are focused on the study of social sciences, development research, education, health, cultural studies. In recent years, about 4500 bachelors, masters, doctors of science are studying at TISS.
Accommodation, meals, prices
The university houses students in six dormitories: four of them on the main campus in Mumbai and two in Malta. Each dormitory can accommodate about 500 full-time students. Boys and girls live separately.
Both vegetarian and meat dishes are served in the dining rooms of the campuses. Packed lunches are available on field work days upon request.
Activities Tata Institute of Social Sciences
The main extracurricular activities of students are field actions. Students help the population of India as volunteers, participate in social actions, conduct research on gender issues, education, healthcare, and the standard of living of the country. TISS has been awarded the UNESCO Prize for the Use of ICT in Education.
The Institute launched the iCall hotline for the needy, held charity events in favor of equality, eradication of domestic violence.
The Student Union holds all the events: sports, literature, creative, social, together with the heads of departments organizes the Day of the Institute. It periodically holds general meetings, working on student complaints.

Facilities and equipment at Tata Institute of Social Sciences
TISS consists of four campuses located in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, Guwahati.
For education, buildings with classrooms, laboratories, computer classes, sports facilities, libraries were built. Students can visit dining rooms, medical centers, recreation areas after hours.
The gymnasium, located on the main campus, is a two-story building with halls for team games, yoga, strength education. If necessary, students can use the services of a coach.

Scholarships Tata Institute of Social Sciences
TISS Student Aid strives to provide access to quality higher education for all students. Only academic merit is taken into account when enrolling, so students from families with different economic status are allowed to study.
TISS has limited funds to assist students in need. This assistance comes from finances allocated by some retired faculty, alumni + annual grants. Student Aid provides partial payment for the program.
