It is better to stay at home: where tourists should not go in 2025

The international compiler of guidebooks Fodor's Travel has compiled a list of tourist destinations that are better not to visit for tourists in 2025. Experts from Fodor's Travel have identified fifteen countries and cities that travelers should not go to. The main criterion for choosing destinations was their popularity, which is accompanied by a number of problems.

Spoiler alert: avoid Bali, Barcelona, and Venice.

Do not think that Fodor's Travel is calling for a boycott of these tourist destinations! They only highlight the problems that cities and countries face due to the constant flow of tourists: problems with infrastructure and ecology. In addition, the constant flow of tourists worsens the lives of local residents. All these problems should be dealt with now, otherwise the situation will only worsen.

  1. The ranking of places where you should not go is headed by Bali. Due to the popularity of Bali, 5.3 million tourists visited Bali last year, as a result, such attention to this place has led to environmental problems: now the island is drowning in plastic waste. The same problem is observed on the magnificent Everest, where too many travelers come to leave their garbage on the mountain.
  2. Barcelona, Mallorca and the Canary Islands, where local residents protested against tourists in the summer, were in the anti-rating: because of travelers, the cost of rent increases, there are no places in cafes and restaurants, and the streets are dirty and noisy. In Venice and Lisbon, residents also suffer from visitors, so they introduced a tax for those who come to these cities for one day. Plus, there is a lack of housing, so Fodor's Travel representatives do not recommend going here either.
  3. It is not recommended to visit Koh Samui due to the expected influx of tourists after the premiere of the new season of the popular TV series "White Lotus". The series was filmed in Thailand, including Koh Samui. Due to the large flow of travelers on the island, problems with water supply and waste disposal may begin.

In recent years, the following destinations have been gaining popularity: Tokyo and Kyoto, the British Virgin Islands, Kerala, the city of Oaxaca (Mexico). But the problem is that the infrastructure of these destinations is not yet ready for a constant flow of tourists, and soon the same difficulties may arise as in Bali, Barcelona and Koh Samui.

Another popular destination is the North Coast 500 ring road in Scotland: there are too many people coming here now, so there are constant traffic jams on the roads, and there are no vacancies in campsites.

In the city of Agrigento (Sicily, Italy), a water crisis has begun, which could worsen if the flow of tourists does not decrease.

Of course, you can still choose these holiday destinations, however, it is important to take into account not only your desires, but also the existing problems caused by mass tourism.
