Foundation program in the UK: one-year university preparation course

Foundation program in the UK: one-year university preparation course

The Foundation course remains one of the most popular programs for foreign students planning to enroll in British higher education institutions .

To enroll in the Foundation, the entrant must meet the following conditions:

  • Be at least 17 years of age (graduates of secondary schools)
  • Have a certificate of full secondary education [999.6 ]
  • Have a fairly high level of English:IELTS from 4.5 or TOEFL from 477.

The whole course is designed for 1 academic year. This is an ideal option for schoolchildren who are not fully determined with a priority university and who have not previously studied abroad.

The academic program has three main objectives:

  • Improvement of the level of English almost to the level of the carrier
  • Acquisition of valuable academic skills
  • Deepening and updating of academic knowledge in basic subjects.

The Foundation also helps to fully adapt to the foreign educational system and its peculiarities, to gain valuable experience inBritish school or college, the experience of living on campus. Academic disciplines offered to students generally repeat the list of the school curriculum and include in addition those subjects that will be studied inUniversity at the selected faculty. At the same time, the choice is wide enough - each student will be able to determine the most priority disciplines for himself, while expanding his knowledge in key, mandatory areas.

The main advantage of this program is its short duration (unlike the two-year IB and A-level ). The main minus the lack of universality: the most prestigious and elite universities (for example, Oxford and Cambridge ) do not accept the results of the Foundation, considering it insufficiently academically complete. Also, the Foundation will not help those students who plan to study at the faculties of law or medicine: such complex specialties require A-level or IB certificates and no less.
