Ioannina University is a state university founded in 1964. Originally arose as a branch of the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki, but already in 1970 it became a separate higher educational institution.
Today, the university is 26,000 students, about 1,000 teachers, 500 administrative staff. It is considered one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Greece.
Annually, the University of Ioannina occupies high places in the world rankings of educational institutions:
