Ioannina University is a state university founded in 1964. Originally arose as a branch of the University of Aristotle in Thessaloniki, but already in 1970 it became a separate higher educational institution.
Today, the university is 26,000 students, about 1,000 teachers, 500 administrative staff. It is considered one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Greece.
