Preschool education in York

There is only 1 city council-run kindergarten in York - St Paul's Kindergarten. Also in the city there are private kindergartens offering services for the maintenance and education of children in a variety of methods, including Montessori.

Most children go to Pre-school or prep school in September of the school year they turn five.

Primary and secondary education in York

York City Council governs most of the city's primary and secondary schools. About 70 local schools are open here, 10 of them offer secondary education, ending with a GCSE diploma, four offer training up to 18 years old in A-level, International Baccalaureate programs. 

There are several private schools of different profiles in York: you can apply for a place in one of them in September 6th grade (until October 31).

Prospective students can attend school events in September and October - each school holds its own event on its own evening.

Higher education in York

The city has two universities: York University and York St John University. York University opened in 1963, becoming one of the leading universities in the world, and was incorporated into the Russel Group in 2012. York St John's University, formerly an autonomous college of the University of Leeds, was granted full university status in 2006, becoming the second university in York.

York St John University

York St John University was founded in 1841 as York Diocesan Training School. Today it is an urban public research university in North Yorkshire, England, with about 5,000 students.

York St John's University in 2026 will celebrate its 185th anniversary and 20 years of full university status. The university's strategy defines the mission, vision, values, priorities, which help to respond to a changing world. 96.9% of graduates are employed or continue to study within six months after graduation.

The university offers various undergraduate and graduate programs on the basis of four faculties: the Faculty of Arts, Pedagogy, Theology, Business and Communications, Healthcare, and Natural Sciences. Some programs:
