Study in US schools: tuition fees for foreign students

If you are thinking of sending your child to a middle or high school in the United States, you need to know what types of schools exist:

  1. State day
  2. Boarding schools or private boarding schools.

Admission conditions, residence and socialization are very different.

In the first case, the child goes to school every day. In the morning, lessons begin, then lunch, additional classes and the end of the school day at 16: 00-18: 00, depending on the workload and the number of circles, additional classes.

At the end of the day, the child returns to the place of residence. There are also several types of them that you can choose depending on the convenience, price and temperament of the child:

  • Accommodation with a foster family (host-family)
  • Accommodation in a hostel, if the school has one.

Foster families are people who work with the school or are freelancing under temporary guardianship. All these people are carefully selected and tested by the police and a psychiatrist. Usually the school has an established base of families who live near the school, have been working with it for many years and are ready to accept foreign students, which means that they already have experience in this, your child will be given proper care. Often the hosts are retirees whose children have already grown up and left home.

The family is always chosen according to your criteria. For example, would you like to have animals in your family? How do you feel about smoking? What is the child allergic to and what does he usually eat? On the basis of these data, the most suitable family is selected, which will be able to provide cultural assimilation to your child in a foreign country.

The second type of residence is based on a dormitory (residence): this type is most often applied to private boarding schools. These are schools on the basis of which children both study and live: this is a large closed area with various buildings, between which children move during the day.

In terms of cost, both types of study and accommodation come out about the same. Everything will depend on the state where the school is located and on its rating:

  • In Maine, you can find an international boarding school from $ 35,000 per year.
  • A public school in California with accommodation in a school hostel located in the city (that is, not on the school's territory) will cost from $ 55,000 per year.
  • And if we consider a boarding school with full board in Florida, where training and living in the same territory, then the cost will be from $ 65,000.

But, of course, it is important to discuss all your wishes with the agent so that he selects the most suitable options for your child. There is no single price list here, so sometimes an option may pleasantly surprise you.
