Description of Studio Cambridge Language School
Studio Cambridge Language School is the oldest school in the famous university city of Britain. The school works more than 60 years. The school meets high standards of academic preparation.
A special environment is created in the Cambridge language school. There is everything for effective learning. The school invited only highly qualified teachers with extensive experience of communication with international students. In the school all conditions for a comfortable staying are created.
Each year, the language school accepts more than 4,000 students. Everyone can choose a suitable English course in the UK. On the first day, students are invited to take tests to determine the level of basic knowledge. According to its results, students are enrolled in groups.
What makes English so special for families from all over the world?
In 2023, statistics show there are about 1.5 billion people around the world who speak English both natively and as a second language. English is the global language for business, tourism, aviation, sciences, and media (to name a few).
Educational process
Upon enrollment, students take a placement test to determine their English level and are assigned to a group at the appropriate level. Teachers then monitor progress and move students to the next level as their language skills improve. All study groups at the school are mixed — men and women study together. If there are no other students of a suitable level at the school at the time of arrival, individual lessons may be offered instead of group classes at no extra charge, with one individual lesson counting as three group lessons. The school operates a system of six main English levels (each divided into sub-levels), aligned with the CEFR, Cambridge exams, the English language test, and TOEFL — ranging from beginner (Beginner, no CEFR level) to advanced (Advanced, CEFR C1/C2, Cambridge Advanced/Proficiency exams).
Purchasing textbooks is not required: study materials are included in the course fee, and books and recordings can be borrowed from the study centre. Additional costs for mandatory textbooks apply only to students on English language test and Cambridge exam courses. Progress is tracked through weekly ongoing tests and a final exam at the end of the course, the results of which are compared with the results of the entry test. Upon completion, a certificate is issued indicating the progress achieved. Students receive personal tutorials with a teacher to discuss progress and goals, as well as an individual Study Plan drawn up based on the tutorials and classroom work. For self-study, students have access to graded readers with audio, textbooks and programmes covering grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and exam preparation, DVD films, fiction, reference books, dictionaries, newspapers and magazines.
Classes use published textbooks and the school's own materials based on authentic native-speaker language (video, TV and film clips, internet page and magazine texts). Except for exam preparation courses, there is no fixed textbook, which allows the school to tailor the programme to the needs of a specific group. A student may change to the same or a more intensive course within approximately one week of the start of classes. Switching to a less intensive course requires four weeks' notice. Course extensions are generally possible, but for student visa holders this depends on visa conditions.
The school's teachers hold CELTA, TEFL or PhD qualifications; some of them came to teaching after careers in law, public service, banking, investment or academic research. For students under 18, the school provides a dedicated Head of Pastoral Care, trained welfare staff, and a 24-hour emergency telephone line available to all students regardless of age. Staff are trained in first aid and can administer over-the-counter medication to a student (such as paracetamol) unless instructed otherwise in advance. Host families are not permitted to administer medication to students themselves.
