Sri Lanka opens its first branch of a British university for the first time in history

The University of West London is preparing to establish a university campus in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, which will be the first time that a British university will open a representative office in this country.

The new branch will expand the academic spectrum of the university: there will be programs in the field of law, computer engineering and life sciences. For local students, this is access to high-quality British education without having to leave their home country. The university's studying courses will be focused on the needs of the Sri Lankan labor market and aligned with the national development program Vision 2048, which will be an attempt to reduce the "brain drain" abroad and increase employment opportunities for graduates. For Sri Lanka, this is an important step in the development of the domestic economy and an opportunity to make a name for itself in the international educational market. Cooperation with the British will make studying in the country more affordable for tens of thousands of young people every year.

This project continues the trend of opening overseas branches of British universities in South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe; similar campuses are already operating in the UAE and Greece.
