Description of University of Lodz

The university was founded in 1945 on the basis of the Pedagogical Institute, the Higher School of Economic Sciences and a branch of the Free Polish University. Thanks to its excellent educational background and successful teaching staff, the University of Lodz does not leave the rankings of the best universities in Poland. The University of Lodz is a member of many international programs, a member of the European University Association (EUA).

The University of Lodz cooperates with more than 250 scientific organizations around the world, more than 700 educational institutions from different countries are included in the list of partners. Educational process is carried out at 12 faculties, which include 80 directions and 167 specialties.

The University of Lodz is considered to be quite large - the number of students is more than 30,000 people, of which about 2% are foreign students. The teaching staff consists of 2,000 professors and teachers.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The University of Lodz has 10 dormitories near the buildings and faculties: they are equipped with ramps, lifts and toilets for students with limited mobility.

The rooms are designed for 2-3 people, most often students from the same country live together. Toilet room and kitchen are shared on the floor.

Activities University of Lodz

The circles and sections for each faculty are different, but any student can attend them by registering in advance.

Thanks to the Erasmus program, exchange training is available - students go abroad to the university of their choice for a semester or academic year.

Facilities and equipment at University of Lodz

On campuses, there are gyms and spaces for joint recreation, learning and entertainment.

The university library is considered one of the largest and most modern in the country, it includes more than 3 million volumes.

The Center for Physical Education and Sports was opened - a modern complex with a swimming pool, sports and gymnasiums, a beauty salon and a medical center.

Admission dates and extra charges

Educational process takes place over two semesters, each 15 weeks long.

  • Winter: October-first half of February;
  • Summer: second half of February - end of June.

Holidays are provided on national holidays, summer - from July to the end of September.

Exams are held in the last two weeks of each semester.

The duration of education in Polish and English is:

  • Undergraduate - 3 years / 6 semesters;
  • Master's degree - 2 years / 4 semesters.

Students with a Pole Card have the opportunity to study for free.

Additional expenses:

  • Monthly expenses (accommodation, meals, transport).

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

A Polish visa is required to enter the University of Lodz. Next, students should fill out a questionnaire and collect personal documents required by the university.

Each faculty has prepared its own tests (text and oral). When enrolling, applicants will need to provide certificates from past places of study, certificates for extracurricular activities.

Scholarships University of Lodz

In the 2017-2018 academic year, a 50% discount on the cost of training was given to students from some countries. The university often practices such material assistance for foreign students.

Students from Poland receive scholarships based on concessional benefits. Also, the university financially supports students from Angola, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, etc.

Recommendations on when to apply

- some schools have a specific time frame (September-November - please specify an individual school)
- some schools require tests in several stages (UKISET, internal tests of the school: English, mathematics, logics, subjects, interview, some require a personal visit)

- for Foundation and Pathway programs, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are usually required, respectively

- the deadline normally closes in January, for TOP HEIs and, as a rule, in March in other universities
