Traveling in the off-season: where to go and what to see

Traveling in the off-season: where to go and what to see

The most popular seasons for travel are, of course, winter and summer. But do you understand that the off-season - spring and autumn - is also not a reason to sit at home waiting for the right time to travel abroad? To turn your ideas about the best time to travel, we have compiled a selection of ten countries where you can fly today, without waiting for the supposedly right month!

Germany

It is most profitable to fly to Germany in late autumn or early spring, when the cost of tickets achieves its minimum due to low demand. The change of seasons does not detract from the beauty of the local Gothic architecture, modern establishments and natural locations, and in October you can get here to one of the main events in the country, if not in Europe - the Oktoberfest in Munich, where you can taste the famous Bavarian beer and meet travelers from all over the world.

For lovers of quieter and more natural environment, there is also a place here, for example, the hot springs in Baden-Baden: this place became famous in previous centuries, but continues to delight locals and tourists to this day.

Spain

A country where a warm climate is not a temporary phenomenon, but a year-round history, so already in May and October you can choose the local beaches or walk along the streets of Spanish cities in light images. Explore architectural objects, go to a dance master class, try to understand the sacred meanings at exhibitions in museums or try all the dishes of Spanish cuisine - the choice is yours!

If you are attracted only by the beaches and the sun, then go straight to the Canary Islands, where summer lasts all year round.

Greece

It is best to get acquainted with the heritage of ancient Greek culture and mythology just in the off-season, when the heat has subsided, and the cold has not affected the streets of cities. Long island hopping and excursion routes are available to tourists at any time, but the beach season awaits you in Greece from May to October.

France

Locals are also fans of hiking in comfortable weather, so autumn and spring in France are a good time to explore the European country. Along with the gradual decrease in the temperature outside, the flow of tourists also decreases, so you do not have to stand in long queues on the way to popular attractions, and the prices for tourist sites also become more pleasant during the low demand season.

Mountain lovers are waiting for the French Alps all year round, which win the hearts of tourists with their incredible views, clear lakes and thermal springs. The ski season runs from November to May or all year round, depending on the resort chosen.

United Kingdom

The off-season in the UK is primarily a way to significantly reduce the cost of tickets and accommodation, especially if you are planning a trip to the capital of England, which is considered one of the most expensive cities in Europe. But remember that the weather here is less favorable to residents than in the island resorts, so you will have to dress warmly, and be sure to put an umbrella or raincoat in your suitcase.

It is not necessary to walk only along the classic tourist route, it is better to deviate from the patterns as much as possible and walk through local establishments, remote streets and parks.

For meadow scenery and active fauna, head to Scotland, and to immerse yourself in your childhood, take a train for a trip along the Glenfinnan Viaduct from the Harry Potter story. In general, everyone will find something cozy and interesting for themselves in the vastness of the United Kingdom!

Netherlands

Spring in the Netherlands is an incredibly beautiful season, primarily because of the blooming of tulips. Admiring dozens of varieties and shades of buds is ideal in the royal Keukenhof Park from mid-March to mid-May. Also in autumn, you can feel the full power of the atmosphere of the golden season of the year: walk along the cobbled streets, ride along the river channels, taste warming drinks - in general, catch Zen.

By the way, entry to the beaches in the off-season in the Netherlands is not prohibited, so you can safely get to Tessel Island to personally appreciate the seascape, explore the old lighthouse, look into the Maritime Museum and fish for shrimp yourself.

Portugal

This country is the realm of spring, which stays here all the time between summer and winter (logical, right?). The sun, the beach, the ocean, colorful streets, bright trams - everything is within your immediate reach within the borders of one country!

Surfers will especially like Portugal for its waves and continuous season: beginner surfers come to the sea in May and September, and in October and April, professionals also come to the beaches along with big waves.

Italy

Crowds of tourists subside, opportunities to walk along the Italian streets freely and easily wake up! You can't do without queues at the main attractions of the country, but there are significantly fewer people than in the main seasons. So if you have long dreamed of seeing the Venetian canals with your own eyes and riding a gondola, getting into museums, running through fashionable shops in Milan or taking an original shot with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, then take a closer look at a trip in autumn or spring.

Access to the beaches in Italy is open from May to October, so do not forget to take a swimsuit with you if you are going in the "summer" half of the year.

Turkey

Tourists in Turkey have access to hot springs, ancient monasteries, mosques, palaces, parks, walking trails and, of course, acquaintances with chic street cats all year round! The off-season here is a great time of year to walk a lot, eat deliciously, actively study local customs and just enjoy life.

By the way, sea holidays in autumn and spring are also possible here: until the end of October and from the beginning of May, you can enjoy beach views and swim here.

Austria

Cultural enrichment awaits you in Austria with the famous Viennese coffee and apple strudel. Do not deny yourself the pleasure of getting to the local opera, on a tour of palaces and museums, walking routes through the city streets and picnics with a view of the Alps.

Also you can go to the resort with skis or snowboarding in Austria at any time of the year: for example, it is better to go to Sölden and Silvretta Nova from November to May, and to Tyrol from September to April.
