The Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) is one of the most authoritative ranking agencies in the field of international education. The world ranking of educational institutions is published annually - it examines the institutions of about 80 countries, the quality of which is estimated by several indicators:

  • The educational environment (including the quality of teaching)
  • Research activities
  • Level of innovation spread
  • International Communications
  • Interaction with business representatives
  • Financial indicators.

The publication has its own qualitative methodology, which is constantly improved taking into account the opinions of experts, readers and the editorial staff - moreover, special consulting firms conduct independent audit of methodology and calculations. In addition to the annual general report, rankings are also compiled for various branches of knowledge and science that give an idea of which discipline / direction at which university has a strong position. So, for example, a university may not occupy a high place in the overall ranking, but be in the top of the list for engineering, medicine, humanities. Also there is an opportunity to track the rankings for individual regions - Europe, Asia, North America and others. The consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranked together with The Times Higher Education (THE) from 2004 to 2009, but then the relationship was terminated and QS is currently publishing data on its own methodology. Indicators include:

  • Scientific and research activities, useful applicable developments
  • Level of qualifications and professionalism of teachers
  • Interaction with representatives of the economy, politics and the state
  • The level of communication in the international plan
  • Development strategies.

The well-known The Times newspaper in conjunction with the Sunday The Sunday Times presents an annual report and a ranking of institutions of higher education, which, in addition to traditional indicators on the level of teaching and development of research activities, takes into account such indicators as:

  • Degree of student satisfaction
  • Prospects for graduates in employment and career development
  • Number of students who completed the course completely (were not expelled).

The Guardian also has its own methodology and annually represents the prestigious ranking of British universities.   • Satisfaction with teaching
  • Effective feedback
  • Ratio of students and teachers
  • Prospects for employment and career development.
