RSUPE was founded on June 2, 1979 as Sverdlovsk Engineering and Pedagogical Institute. The functions and powers of the founder of the university are carried out by the Ministry of Education of Russia.

The university has 2 scientific schools:

• Scientific school of G.M. Romantsev "Scientific foundations of development and design of professional and professional-pedagogical education in Russia";
• Psychology of professional development.

Research units of RSUPE include:

RSUPE cooperates with the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. In 2021, according to the grants of this fund, research was conducted on 6 scientific problems:

1. Development of fundamental scientific foundations for the use of plasma incineration processes in waste recycling technologies;
2. Adaptation of the regional system of education of the workers to migration processes;
3. Modeling of life prospects by the digital generation in the space of information and communication technologies;
4. Forecasting the professional future of students in the digital age;
5. Vocational education in Russia: theory and practice of implementation;
6. Pension investment and the formation of the pension capital of Russians: determinants of institutionalization.

The results of research work are reflected in lecture courses, used in laboratory and practical classes, industrial education, course and diploma design and practices.

The main forms of educational and extracurricular research activities of students are:

• involvement in the implementation of scientific works of departments on the thematic plan of the university;
• work in student scientific communities;
• holding a comprehensive event "Days of Scientific Creativity of Youth";
• participation in scientific and practical conferences;

To stimulate the research activities of students, an annual competition is held for the title of "The Best Department of RSUPE for Research Work of Students".

In 2021, 4 russian patents and a certificate of state registration of the computer program were received.

The share of the number of teachers in the parent university who have academic degrees and titles is 66.52%, of which 55.52% have the degree of Candidate of Sciences and 10% have a Doctor of Science.

The academic year begins on September 1 and is divided into two semesters, each of which ends with a test-examination session in accordance with the curriculum of the relevant educational program.
