The Ural Conservatory has been operating since 1934, becoming the first musical university in the USSR east of the Volga region. To date, it is a creative and scientific-methodical center that carries out large-scale concert activities and training of high-class musicians, including teachers of all levels, researchers and methodologists, which are successfully implemented in various fields of musical culture.
Educational process
To date, the UGK conducts training at 16 departments in bachelor's, specialist's, master's, postgraduate and full-time assistantship-internship programs.

Scientific achievements
On the basis of the UGK, systematic research activities are carried out, on the basis of which monographs, collections of articles and their own scientific journals "Scientific Bulletin of the Ural Conservatory" and "Word about Music" are published. The Conservatory is a co-founder of the Joint Dissertation Council for the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations.
Every year, students of the Conservatory take part in the musicological competition of works by students of historical, theoretical and performing departments "Ural Youth Forum".

The following creative teams operate in the UGK:
- Student Symphony Orchestra;
- Orchestra of Folk Instruments;

In recent years, creative teams have given concerts both at the Conservatory itself and at various venues in the Sverdlovsk Region and the Ural Federal District. The UGC Symphony Orchestra has repeatedly performed in Germany.
Every year, within the walls of the Conservatory, the Opera Studio shows performances that have already been awarded Russian prizes three times, which until now has not been found in the practice of other conservatories in the country. In addition, the productions of the UGK Opera Studio have repeatedly been awarded the Prize of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region.
Every year, major festivals, competitions, scientific conferences and master classes of well-known teachers are held on the basis of the UGK. More than 100 teachers and students of the Conservatory every year become laureates and diploma winners of all-Russian and international competitions.
The Conservatory publishes the creative fruits of its activity in textbooks, produces sheet music and discs.

Graduates of the UGK are well-known musicians, singers, artists of the symphony orchestra and choir, composers, performers on folk and wind instruments, musicologists, often occupying leadership positions. Among the graduates of the Conservatory, we can single out the People's Artist of Russia V.I. Kazenin, who since 1990 headed the Union of Composers of Russia, and in 2012 became an honorary professor of the UGK.
