Kazakh-American University was established in 1997 as a part of an agreement between America and Kazakhstan on the creation of a joint educational institution. The first release took place in 2001. In 2003, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan presented the rector of the university with a certificate confirming the acceptance of KAU into UNESCO schools.
