Georgian College is a state college of applied arts and technology.  It is known for being the first and only college in Canada to receive Ashoka Changemaker College status. Learning here is largely related to innovation, entrepreneurship, and ideas of social impact: students are encouraged to develop projects that can bring real benefits to society and change the environment for the better.

The educational process at Georgian College is built flexibly so that students can choose a convenient format — classes are held:

• Full-time on campus,
• Online in real time with a teacher and with independent study of materials,
• In a hybrid format where all options are combined.

The GC Flex system works separately. It allows students to decide for themselves how to attend classes: come to the classroom, connect online, or study asynchronously. The format can be changed during the semester, adapting the studying to your own rhythm and circumstances.

Study is closely linked to practice: many programs integrate studying through work internships, Co—op and production internships, where students gain real-world experience in their specialty. New students are supported by an adaptation system: the Georgian Head Start pre-orientation hub, academic orientation and the First Year Experience program, as well as Peer Mentor mentors from among undergraduates.

To select the level of communication disciplines, the Communications Placement Assessment (CPA) is used, as well as the Work Study program — paid part-time jobs on campus, available to international students with the right to work in Canada.

Georgian College offers more than 130 full-cycle programs across various fields. Studies are structured by level:

One of the notable research areas at Georgian College is the development of the Applied Research & Innovation Department: the center is engaged in projects in the fields of product design, prototyping, data analysis, testing, and digital technologies. It works together with companies and organizations, helping to solve real business challenges and implement new technologies. Students are actively involved in such projects, allowing them to start working with practical industry demands.

Separately, there is the Centre of Industrial Simulation and Prototyping — one of the first Industry 5.0 format centers in Ontario. It specializes in modern manufacturing technologies, digital modeling, and industrial simulation, where students and researchers can create prototypes and test engineering solutions in conditions as close as possible to real production.

International students at Georgian College can choose between several housing options: on-campus residence, off-campus residence, or placement with host families.

The campus accommodation includes furnished rooms, internet access and common areas, and a convenient location near academic buildings. This format is especially suitable for those who want to be closer to student life and use the entire college infrastructure without unnecessary trips.

• The largest residence is located on the Barrie campus, where about 500 students live. This is a modern eight-storey building with a suite-apartment format: each has a separate bedroom, and the kitchen and living room are shared with one neighbor. The rooms are furnished, and the price usually includes internet and utilities. The residence has 24-hour security, reception and staff support.
• The Owen Sound campus has a smaller residence hall for about 60 students. Here, the format is closer to life in townhouses: usually a small group of students live in one block, each has its own bedroom, and the kitchen, living room and bathroom are shared. Such housing is more like self-renting an apartment, but with college support and a security system on campus.
• Previously, there was a residence hall on the Orillia campus, but now it is being closed, and students are being transferred to Barrie.

Students can use the OneCard system to take their choice of meals, from fully personal plans to basic offerings at campus cafes.

The Georgian College Students’ Association plays an important role in the student life of Georgian College: it helps to develop the student community and makes life on campus more active and diverse. Various events are regularly held on all campuses: concerts, themed parties, film nights, gaming events, meetings with invited speakers and entertainment trips. It also hosts major annual events and conferences where leadership skills are developed and student government is supported.

A separate area is student clubs: through GCSA, students can join existing communities or create their own if there is no suitable area yet. There are different clubs: academic, professional, creative, cultural or social.

Additionally, students have access to volunteer opportunities, workshops, and a Week of Clubs where they can get to know college communities. The Center for Changemaking and Social Innovation (CCSI) operates on campus, which provides practical project experience, skill development, teamwork and networking for those who want to influence social change.

• One of the main advantages of Georgian College is considered to be the high level of employment of graduates: about 90% of former students find a job within the first six months after graduation.

• Another strong point is the practical focus: almost all programs have mandatory internships and Co—ops, and students gain real-world work experience during their studies in Canada.

Georgian College unites several campuses in Central Ontario: Barrie, Orillia, Owen Sound, Midland, Muskoka. Each has modern studying centers and laboratories, especially in the fields of engineering, healthcare, business, transport and ICT.

The learning spaces are well equipped: the classrooms have projectors, screens, audio systems and laptop connections (HDMI/VGA), the bring-your-own-device format is supported when students use their own devices. Many classrooms are equipped with hybrid technologies, so classes can be held simultaneously in the classroom and online, using digital tools for presentations and interactivity.

Depending on the profile, students work in specialized laboratories, simulation centers, and workshops. Engineering, medical, and technological training uses installations that are as close to real—world equipment as possible - for example, the Owen Sound campus has high-tech simulation centers, including marine and engineering simulators, where skills can be practiced in conditions similar to a professional environment.

In addition, students get access to the college's digital platforms and services: Blackboard, Microsoft 365, Teams, and internal systems. The campuses have computer labs, technical support, and self-service areas with the ability to print, access programs, and temporarily use laptops through special services.

The college is consolidating the Orillia and Muskoka campuses, moving all programs and internships to Barrie by the fall of 2026, which expands access to services, infrastructure, and student life.

The Barry Center is opening a new college site focused on design, fine arts, and innovative technology programs. It can accommodate up to 800 students, is equipped with modern studios and is located a few minutes from the embankment. The transfer of programs to this site is planned for the winter of 2027.

Studying starts several times a year — the main sets fall on the autumn, winter and spring trimesters. Registration for the courses opens approximately one month before the start of classes. To secure a place in the program after receiving an invitation, a non-refundable tuition fee is paid.

Admission to Georgian College for international students takes place in several stages:

1. An online application is submitted through the International Application System, where all required documents are uploaded: high school diploma or degree, transcripts, proof of English proficiency, and other materials.
2. The application is then reviewed by the college. If everything is in order and they are ready to offer the student a place, a Letter of Acceptance is issued — an official enrollment letter.
3. To secure a place in the program, students pay a deposit and confirm their participation.
4. The next step is obtaining a Provincial Attestation Letter from the province of Ontario. After that, the process of applying for a student visa begins, followed by waiting for its approval.
5. Once the visa is received, the final step remains — registering for courses and preparing for the start of studies at the college.

Some Georgian College programs are highly competitive: the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of available spots, so candidates are ranked by academic performance. Recommended minimum average grades for consideration (Fall 2026 intake):

• Dental Hygiene — 90%,
• Medical Laboratory Technology, Paramedic, Honours Bachelor of Science - Nursing (bridge RPN to BScN) — 80%,
• Advanced Care Paramedic, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Honours Bachelor of Science - Nursing, Practical Nursing, Veterinary Technician — 75%,
• Pre-service Firefighter Education and Training — 60%.

Early February is the equal consideration deadline for highly competitive programs: applications submitted before this date are reviewed on equal terms, while those submitted later are considered on a first-come, first-served basis until spots are filled. Once a program is full, a waitlist is formed, with candidates ranked by academic achievement.

During their studies at Georgian College, many students complete paid internships and Co-op placements with employers in Canada, so by the time they graduate, students already have a practical portfolio and understanding of their profession, making them competitive in the job market.

One of the college's strong outcomes is the high employment rate among graduates: approximately 90.3% of former students find employment within six months of completing their studies, and this rate is consistently above the average for the province of Ontario. The college partners with 6,000+ employers who participate in internships and assist with job placement, creating a direct link between education and the real job market.

For international students, an important opportunity remains the Post-Graduation Work Permit — a work permit issued after completing studies. The college provides a list of programs that meet PGWP requirements: graduates of these programs can obtain a permit for up to three years depending on the duration of their studies.

The requirements at Georgian College depend on the level of the program, but there are always 3 main requirements: academic results, proof of English and a package of necessary documents.

For Diploma, Degree, and most Certificate programs, you must provide a secondary school certificate with official transcripts indicating subjects and grades, as well as proof of graduation. It is mandatory to study English and mathematics at the Grade 12 level or its equivalent. Some programs may have additional subject requirements, they depend on the specific specialty and are always specified separately.

The requirements for the Graduate Certificate level are stricter. Here you need a college or university diploma with transcripts, additional materials: a CV and a motivation letter explaining the purpose of the studying. Sometimes they may ask for recommendations or proof of work experience if it is important for a particular program.

A separate condition for all international students is to confirm their English language proficiency if they have not previously studied in an English—speaking system. The college accepts various international tests:

• TOEFL iBT — minimum 79 points (for Bachelor's and Graduate Certificate programs, the requirements are higher — from 89 points),

Georgian EAP (English for Academic Purposes) — from 70%.

The results of language tests are accepted if they were received no more than two years ago.

For international students, Georgian College offers a separate program — International Entrance Scholarships, which helps reduce the cost of the first year of study. Typically, this is a fixed amount, for example, around $CAD 2000, which is immediately applied as a tuition discount.
