GCSE exam results: recheck, retake

GCSE exam results: recheck, retake

Unsatisfactory results of exams are a nuisance phenomenon. But experts advise students not to drop their hands. In the case, for example, with a shortage of a few percent to the required estimate, it makes sense to initiate a re-examination of the examination paper. First of all, it concerns basic subjects (English, mathematics, etc.).

Reconsideration requests to the examination board are received regularly. Last year 1,2% of students were rechecked. The final estimates were both higher and lower than those set earlier.

Is re-registration relevant?

Any exam can be retaken. But is it really necessary? Students entering universities are interested in grades for A-level. They eclipse the marks on GCSE . Accordingly, retake the latter is not necessary. In addition, manyuniversities do not welcome the re-surrender of exams. Preference in enrollment is usually given to those students who pass the final attestation on the first attempt.

For students wishing to retake the exam, experts in education recommend carefully analyzing the previous attempt, identify the causes of failure and work on their elimination. If you prepare for a retake in the same conditions as for the first exam, it is unlikely that the result will please the students.

Assessment in the examination and placement

Employers refer to the retake of exams ambiguously. Some, like in the case of universities, give preference to those who coped with attestation on the first attempt. The actual level of knowledge of young specialists is important to others. The number of examinations to confirm the value does not have this. Many companies evaluate first of all the personal qualities of competitors, the level of their aspirations, motivation for achievements. The qualification, confirmed by the examination tests, fades into the background.

Courses instead of retake

Bad results for the GCSE are not at all a sentence for entering the university. It is possible to finish specialized preparatory courses and on the basis of their results to enter the university. However, GCSE estimates will be of little importance.

Preparatory courses are popular with international students. They make it possible to bring secondary education in post-Soviet countries in line with international standards.

Analysis of the results of examinations

Often there are cases when the student shows impeccable results for the so-called non-core subjects. At the same time, in the main disciplines, assessments can be mediocre. A combination of disciplines for further study is recommended to select very carefully. Specialists recommend to pay special attention to subjects, the assessment of which is taken into account when entering prestigious universities (mathematics, English, natural sciences, several others).

Responsible approach to the choice of disciplines is worth and excellent students. The A-A * GCSE grades give the student an advantage when enrolling in the program. But GCSE and A-level courses are very different. Teaching methods effective in the first case, during the biennialpreparation for the university may not work. To achieve results, the student needs to be ready to change strategy in time, learn how to work independently, form clear judgments, argue them, critically think and purposefully follow the path of obtaining a high-quality profile education.
