Central European University (CEU)

Central European University (abbreviated CEU) or Central European University is a non-profit private higher education institution that has been actively engaged in scientific research since 1991 in Hungary. The main building of the university is located in Budapest on a small campus.

The university offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs.

Fields of study combine humanities and social sciences, law, sociology, and data science.

The education combines interdisciplinary training, research, and practical assignments with American and European teaching traditions. Faculty members usually devote at least half of their working time to research. Doctoral programs are built on close collaboration between faculties.

In the "History in the Public Sphere" master's program, the first autumn term takes place in Vienna, the spring term at the Blinken OSA Archivum in Budapest, and the second year at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. During the archival practicum, students create podcasts, videos, and interactive guides to archival materials. The final work can be an academic dissertation or a graduation project.

• The Faculty of Historical Studies offers interdisciplinary postgraduate training in the history and culture of the period from approximately 300 AD to the present,
• the Budapest campus is home to the Institute for Democracy,

• the Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement is given to the undergraduate graduate with the highest grade point average in academic courses in their graduating class. At the graduate level, this award is given to the graduates with the highest grade point average,
• the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Life recognizes undergraduate graduates for exceptional contributions to undergraduate programs and the university community,
• the annual Best Dissertation Award is given for significant original research in dissertations in any discipline,
• senior doctoral students are eligible for awards for outstanding research,
• first-year doctoral students are recognized for outstanding performance in coursework and on the comprehensive exam.

• More than a third of students are enrolled in doctoral programs and take part in research together with faculty,
• students, faculty, staff, and alumni represent more than 100 countries.

Participants of joint master's programs in political science with the University of Konstanz and the University of Luxembourg receive consultations on housing matters. Assistance is provided by both universities involved in the respective program.

It is a small university with about 1600 students taking courses every year. The teaching staff of the university is about 300 teachers of the highest category. While studying at the university, you can always take part in exchange programs between universities in the country and the world. University infrastructure

Students have access to literature and textbooks from a large university library, a place in a hostel, a sports ground. The university is constantly developing and sharing its experience, as evidenced by its participation in prestigious research groups and associations.

Bachelor's studies can be paid in one or two installments. The cost does not include the application fee, the annual student fee, accommodation, and other day-to-day expenses.

• The application fee for the bachelor's program is charged to each candidate per admission cycle, regardless of the number of programs chosen. It is non-refundable, and no fee waiver is available,
• The annual student fee for the bachelor's program is paid in one installment per academic year,
• Doctoral candidates from other universities who come to work on their dissertation under the doctoral support program pay a monthly student fee and a contribution to the Austrian Student Union for each academic term.

The student fee is mandatory throughout the studies. Once an admission offer is accepted, a one-time non-refundable registration payment is required. For applicants to bachelor's and master's programs, it is credited toward the cost of tuition; for doctoral candidates, it is credited toward the student fee for the first and second years.

Admission to the university is carried out on the basis of exams previously passed by all applicants, submitted in a clearly defined time frame.

Tuition fees at the Central European University

Students should be prepared to pay an amount of $ 500 for each semester.

Financial aid is awarded on academic merit and is available to applicants from any country for most full-time study load programs.

• For especially talented undergraduate applicants, a limited number of scholarships covering part of the tuition fee are available: up to 50%, with a maximum of EUR 4,000 per academic year. University financial aid for undergraduates is allocated only in the first two admission rounds. Undergraduates receiving such aid may not study at another university at the same time, unless a leave of absence for the entire period of study here has been arranged and documented,
• A master's tuition scholarship may cover from 50% to 80% of the tuition fee. Full coverage is possible only in exceptional cases. The monthly stipend for master's students ranges from EUR 300 to EUR 750,
• Doctoral candidates who apply before the financial aid review deadline are automatically considered for a scholarship with full tuition coverage plus payments for housing and daily expenses. The monthly amount is EUR 2,002 before deductions, awarded for a period of 48 months,
• Children of graduates of degree-awarding programs or preparatory programs providing access to higher education may qualify for a 20% discount on tuition,
• Siblings of current students may qualify for a 20% discount on tuition,
• Doctoral candidates from other universities coming to work on their dissertation under the doctoral support program may qualify for full exemption from tuition fees.

Scholarship payment begins after enrollment has been completed, the student has arrived on the Vienna campus, and bank details have been registered in the university system. After the program starts, the amount is calculated proportionally to the period from the date of arrival. No scholarship is paid for the time before arrival.

Separate support is available for research and practical work:

• After the comprehensive exam, doctoral candidates can receive an additional scholarship of up to EUR 5,200 for conferences, research trips, and fieldwork. Food and fuel expenses are not covered,
• Financial support for master's students' research and internships is awarded on academic merit for activities necessary to fulfill master's program requirements. The support is available to students in one- and two-year programs once per course of study, for a period of up to six weeks.
