Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE)

Hungarian Eotvos Loran University or Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE) is based in 1635 by Archbishop Peter Pazmanem Esztergom. Being under the protectorate of the Jesuits, the university traditionally included philosophical and theological faculties, and in 1667 a law faculty was opened. In the 18th century, the college was controlled by the state, and in 1769 the formation of the medical faculty took place. After the dissolution of the Jesuits in 1777, the school was moved to the royal palace of the city of Buda. At the University of Etosha Loran there was an opportunity to receive domestic engineering and veterinary education. The language of instruction until 1844 was Latin, as the most optimal and neutral language for a multinational audience.

The modern University of Etosha Laurent is a major educational institution in Hungary. In their own country, the university now occupies the second position, as well as 566 in the world ranking, including 5% of the best universities. More than 22,000 students are educated in the ancient walls of the university (4% of them are foreign students). The academic year is divided into two academic semesters. The teaching staff is represented by 1485 teachers. For students and teachers of the educational institution there is an exchange program. It is possible to receive both stationary and distance education.

Currently, Eotvos Lorand University provides educational services in the following areas:

Infrastructure

The main campus is located within Budapest. Such an arrangement is a characteristic feature for all ancient universities. Usually their history is closely intertwined with the history of the city itself, and campuses are located in the historical center. A library is provided for students. Students can live in a dorm on campus, in close proximity to the academic buildings. The school has all the necessary educational facilities, including lecture halls, laboratories, research centers, reading rooms, rooms for preparing for classes. As well as areas for relaxation and recreation, sports halls, cafes.

The library of the Faculty of Education and Psychology holds introductory sessions about its collections, registration, access to materials, and library services. Such sessions are also available in English. Students are offered training in searching for scientific literature in Hungarian and international databases that the university subscribes to.

The Faculty of Education and Psychology offers a session in English on working with Zotero: saving and organizing articles, compiling a bibliography, and formatting in-text citations. Foreign faculty, students, and doctoral candidates of the Faculty of Humanities have access to a free introductory training on working with MTMT in English.

ELTE's doctoral schools cover the following fields:

ELTE's research projects span computational technologies, natural sciences, and social sciences. Among them:

• HunAIFA — helping the Hungarian artificial intelligence community use high-performance computing for training and fine-tuning models,
• PQC-SCAN — studying the security of existing and future post-quantum cryptography systems,
• GWCats — collaborative research in gravitational-wave and electromagnetic astronomy, developing computational tools and data sharing,
• CATALYST — introducing practices that improve the reproducibility of scientific results into the work of research organizations,
• CIVILSPACE — studying legal restrictions on civil society in 12 EU countries using six types of organizations as examples,
• FooDMAP — developing the FoodMAPP application for local food supply and reducing food waste.

• International students come to ELTE from more than 140 countries,
• the Trefort-kert campus housed Loránd Eötvös's study and living quarters,
• the name of the Gólyavár building is connected to the fact that it was originally intended mainly for first-year students,
• part of the plot of Ferenc Molnár's novel "The Paul Street Boys" takes place in the university's Fűvészkert botanical garden.

Meals are organized across different campus buildings. The Ecseri út campus has a buffet and a cafeteria, while the Egyetem tér building has a buffet with hot food at lunchtime. There are also buffets in the Kazinczy and Izabella buildings.

At the Lágymányos campus there are Campus Faloda and Galéria Büfé. At the Kiss János altábornagy campus you can eat at Pipitér Bisztró, and Trefort-kert has buffets with cold and hot food.

Students have access to sports activities in Budapest and Szombathely. ELTE's sports organizations offer almost 40 sports for recreation and competition. Beginners and experienced participants alike are invited to general physical education courses, sports scholarship holders' training sessions, and other sports events.

Eotvos Lorand University has a well-deserved academic reputation among other universities, and also enjoys prestige among employers, which helps graduates to get a good job at the end of the university.

An active research activity is carried out in the educational institution. Special attention should be paid to research projects of students and teachers of the university in the field of biochemistry, immunology, medicine, physics, genetics.

On the roof of the North Building of the Lágymányos campus there is a planetarium, opened in 2011 and used mainly for university teaching. The South Building houses the ELTE Museum of Natural History, with mineralogical, biological, and paleontological collections, and the Mathematics Museum.

The university library has created the BoYL student space. It accommodates a maximum of 35–40 people and is suitable for small events, workshops, lectures, and round tables. It has an interactive whiteboard and a marker board.

The Lágymányos campus has Wi-Fi. Entrances, paths between floors, and restrooms are equipped for barrier-free access. In the Egyetem tér building such access is provided partially, and the names of lecture halls and classrooms are duplicated in Braille.

The Ecseri út and Trefort-kert campuses are equipped for barrier-free access. The Kazinczy and Izabella buildings have accessible elevators, and at the Kiss János altábornagy campus the elevator can be reached through the parking lot.

To enter ELTE, you must have high academic achievements. This is one of the main criteria by which applicants are selected. Only 20% of applicants who have expressed a desire to study at a university receive a positive response from the admissions office (the university is considered one of the most rigorous educational institutions in the world). The cost of undergraduate education for foreigners will be 4800 USD / year. Getting an education at the master's programs for foreigners is 5000 USD / year. Students are provided with financial assistance in the form of scholarships, for which you need to submit an application, which will be considered by a special commission.

• The Doktoranduszi Kiválósági Ösztöndíj Program supports research and professional development of doctoral students with outstanding academic achievements. ELTE participates in this program,
• KDP supports doctoral students who simultaneously conduct research work for an employer outside the higher education system. Across four competitions — KDP-2020, KDP-2021, NVKDP-2021, and KDP-2023 — a total of 104 ELTE students received scholarships.
