Education in Rome for schoolchildren, teenagers and students includes different levels of education: primary, secondary and high schools, colleges, universities, language programs. Schools in Italy, as well as in other foreign countries, are divided into public and private ones by the type of financing, and foreign students equally receive education in both types of institutions. However, schools with state support offer a national curriculum, and boarding schools offer an international format (includes instruction in English at courses not only of Italian origin, but also of American, Canadian or British), Italian is used as optional. The best, prestigious, leading boarding schools are located in Rome, Milan, Monza, Genoa, Siena and Modena.
Secondary education in Italy has three levels, each of which is required to obtain a certificate:
At each stage students undergo exams, and after successful completion of all exams, foreign students can receive a document on secondary education in Italian.
Between the secondary school and the higher with the Italian education system, one more is provided - the lyceum (liceo). In Italy and Rome, this is a kind of preparation for the university, but the graduate will not succeed in going to work immediately after such a lyceum - you will first need to receive a certification document Esame di Maturità. Italian lyceums are divided into the following types:
Each of the lyceums specializes in education in a particular field and offers a curriculum in accordance with this:
Type of Lyceum |
Characteristic |
Classic Lyceum (liceo classico) |
Here, the program is based on humanitarian disciplines. After college, young people usually choose a profession from the field of philosophy or sociology. |
Scientific Lyceum (liceo scientifico) |
Subjects of a technical or natural orientation are offered: physics, biology, chemistry. Such a lyceum is chosen by those who plan to continue their studies at universities or to engage in research activities. |
Linguistic Lyceum (liceo linguistico) |
Studying foreign languages - at least three. Students should not only speak them, but also know the history of that country (or countries) where this language is a state language. |
Art Lyceum (liceo artistico) |
Allows you to get education in theatrics or art. These are usually people who have skills in one of the areas of art: acting, drawing, organizing entertainment events. |
Studying in Rome for foreign students requires certain financial costs, but they are likely to pay off in the near future. Prices for secondary education in schools in Rome range from 4,000-7,000 euros for public institutions, and from 1,000-40,000 euros for private.
Educational institutions of the second type are, as a rule, prestigious leading schools that organize the most comfortable conditions for their students, so the cost is significantly different from state support institutions.
For admission to Italian high schools, students will need to prepare a standard package of documents:
