The ITB, born in an atmosphere based on the spirit of the struggle for independence, was created to optimize the development of the nation.
The history of an engineering university in Indonesia dates back to the 20th century, when the Dutch colonial government established De Technische Hoogeschool te Bandung (THS) on July 3, 1920, on a 30-hectare plot of land in Bandung. At that time there was only one faculty, Faculteit van Technische Wetenschap, and only one specialty. This school of engineering was founded to meet the needs for technical personnel and engineers in connection with the outbreak of the First World War.
