Customs legislation in each country is different, which is why they can have many serious differences from each other. Tourists who visit a new country and return from it to their homeland can become smugglers without realizing it. Often there are cases when a traveler carried across the border an object that is usual for his understanding, but border guards or customs officers detained a tourist, because he tried to smuggle prohibited goods.
Weapons, drugs, alcohol and other items are prohibited almost everywhere, but quite ordinary things can also be suitable for describing smuggling in some countries of the world. Before traveling to an unfamiliar country, a person should carefully study the customs policy of the country and find out which items and products cannot be brought across their border without getting into a very difficult situation.
United States Border
A traveler who decides to pay a visit to the United States of America may face serious problems if he tries to smuggle soil samples, insects, vegetables, fruits, absinthe, fish roe or dairy products across the border.
Egyptian Customs
If a traveler leaves Egypt and takes with him antiques bought at a local shop, he must receive a special document for it, otherwise the tourist will be considered a smuggler. It is also impossible to export shells and corals, which are in abundance on local beaches: if a tourist bought a shell in a store, he must provide customs officers with a check.
European borders
On the territory of the countries that are part of the European Union, it is impossible to import dairy products, meat, grapes for creating wines, seedlings, citrus fruits, potatoes. An exception to dairy products is baby food, which mothers carry if they cross the border with children.
To transport animals, you need to familiarize yourself with the legislation of the desired country separately. On the territory of Germany, for example, it is impossible to bring dogs of 15 fighting breeds.
If the traveler has with him more than 10 thousand euros in cash, he needs to declare them.
Customs in the United Arab Emirates
The UAE has one of the most stringent customs laws in the world. It is strictly forbidden to export palm seeds, objects created from the horns and bones of animals, cultural artifacts, exotic animals from the country. For the export of medicines purchased in the Emirates, there must be an official permit from a doctor.
No items created in Israel can be imported into the United Arab Emirates. Items that may offend members of the Muslim religion are also prohibited, such as magazines for adults or material exposing Islam.
Thailand
From an Asian country it is impossible to take away objects of religion, animal skins, corals, historical artifacts, shells, ivory, mollusks. Small amulets and Buddha figurines, whose height does not exceed 13 cm, are allowed for export.
