Welsh Education Minister Lynn Nilge said that the authorities of the region will not implement the tax on foreign students introduced by the UK government. According to the minister, international students play an important role in the social, cultural and economic spheres of life in Wales, so the local government intends to maintain their influx and continue to welcome visiting students.
Every year, foreign students contribute almost a billion to the budget of Wales.
Recall that the new bill was presented in the UK at the end of spring, it was published as an addendum to the government document on migration policy. The new tax is an additional payment on the income of universities received from foreign students. Immediately after the publication of the information, experts expressed the opinion that as a result, this tax will become a problem not for the management of universities, but for their students, since many universities are likely to raise the cost of education.
