The American Silicon Valley has a potential competitor: the United Kingdom wants to create its own analogue and become a world technological center. As a location for the future point of attraction for scientific and technical specialists from all countries, the authorities chose the region between Oxford and Cambridge.
In the coming years, the British government plans to improve transport links between the two leading universities in the country, build and improve existing residential buildings, and attract third-party investors and leading specialists who want to live and work in the UK to the development of the region. They plan to develop not only material structures, but also scientific vectors, for example, artificial intelligence.
Today, the two selected regions are in second place as the leading startup ecosystems in the United Kingdom, with major companies such as Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Exscientia, Oxa, CMR Surgical, Pragmatic, and Quantinuum now operating here. All these companies have already attracted more than two billion euros to the region, and if the development plan succeeds, then about €78 billion more will be attracted to the country.
