TOP most unusual houses in the world

Our planet is densely populated with people unusual, bright and pretentious, constructing the world to match themselves. Such people need appropriate housing, because architectural education is still valued in the world. In our article we will present to your attention a little more than a dozen original and memorable buildings from all corners of the globe - from the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

In the comments, you can note which of the structures you prefer, and at the same time offer candidates for inclusion in the ranking.

Stone house in Guimares

Casa de Pinedo was built shortly after the fall of the dictatorship of the New State in Portugal, is located on the spurs of the Fafi Mountains and is built on a platform that consists of four impressive boulders with stone walls. The structure is made entirely of cobblestones, with the exception of windows, roofs and doorways.

Originally it was a holiday home and was very popular. This was the reason for the repurposing: the owner could not exchange for a holiday with a meager number of rooms, so now it is a reliquary museum, a major landmark and one of the few Portuguese movie stars.

Forest spiral (Waldspirale/Darmstadt, Germany)

Darmstadt Waldspirale is an apartment complex with 105 households, with underground parking, a café, a kiosk, a bar, a laundry and a swimming pool. The building has exactly a thousand windows, each has a unique shape and size. The situation is similar with door and window handles. The corners in the rooms and corridors are also rounded, repeating the shape of the house.

The author of the project is Friedensreich Handerwasser, who has developed over the years his author's style, characterized by the rejection of symmetrical forms in favor of chaotic, sharp and expressively more winning "scandalous" colors and motifs in the Baroque style. The building was completed in the year of the Millennium.

Crooked house (Sopot, Poland)

Peripheral Poland is no less rich in architectural excesses. Crooked house, built in 2004, in 2010 topped the list of fifty of the most bizarre houses according to the British "Rial Estate". It was built by large national and international companies, it is an office building. The architect was inspired by the works of the famous caricature masters Jan Marchan and Per Dahlberg. A symbol of urban identity in the XXI century.

Hobby Hut

The Welsh house was built by two gentlemen – Simon Dijle and his father-in-law – in 2004. According to the builders, they used only a saw, nails and a hammer, which is why the construction took four months. The building is equipped with a refrigerator, TV, several computers, and most importantly - air conditioning! Everything works at the expense of renewable energy sources - there are solar panels on the roof. The construction cost 4 thousand pounds.

Cubic houses

It is a whole complex in Rotterdam of two large and 38 smaller cubes, designed and built by architect Pete Blom. Apartments were very popular, the total building area is 100 square meters at a comparable height (a quarter of the building is not operated due to the angle of inclination).

Now there is a museum that presents to the public the appearance of the former apartments in all their solitary, as well as a hostel for migrants and refugees.

The Perfect Palace

Palais Ideal is an example of primitivism in the architectural tradition and an ornament of Oteriv. The construction took 33 years, and the postman Ferdinand Chaval acted as the inspirer. He happened to stumble on a stone when he was carrying newspapers - since then he has been collecting stones using his own pockets, and then a basket and a wooden wheelbarrow.

They say that he dreamed of being buried in his creation, but the laws of the French Republic do not allow burying corpses outside the cemetery fence. This did not stop Ferdinand - he bought land in the churchyard and began the construction of the mausoleum. The place of the last refuge was the burial of Oterite. The construction took eight years, and less than a year later the man was buried there in accordance with his will.

The mausoleum is not popular, but the palace was recognized during his lifetime: Pablo Picasso and Henri Breton spoke warmly about it. In 1969 it was recognized as a cultural monument and accepted for state protection.

House of Soviets

The Kaliningrad House of Soviets was conceived as evidence of the triumph of Soviet power. For the construction chose a site cleared of the ruins of the castle of Königsberg. Unfortunately, the construction was not completed due to the instability of the soils and viscous soil. In 1993, another attempt was made, but the investor went bankrupt, and everything ended forever.

Stone (La Pedrera, Barcelona, Spain)

La Pedrera, or Casa Mila - Barcelona building of the zero years of the XX century, designed by Antoni Gaudi, the author of the Sagrada Familia. The surname Mila belongs to businessman Pere and his wife.

The façade resembles a wave in shape, and the railings made by forging are wild shrubs. The last non-clerical project of the great master was never completed due to disagreements with the sponsor. For its resemblance to the cobblestone and received a nickname, also sometimes called quarry or Quarry.

Salvador Dalí Museum

It is located in Figueres, Catalonia. The museum opened on September 28, 74, was designed by Dali himself - here he lived for five years, from the 84th to the 89th.

After examining the photographs depicting the building, you can easily find eggs on the roof. The façade is finished with Catalan plaster yellow from local bread, and the figures of warriors-conquistadors on the roof are equipped with baguettes instead of helmets. The thing is that Dali believed: these products symbolize life and its origin, and bread, in addition to philosophical, had a pragmatic meaning - drawing, the maestro preferred bread and water to everything.

There is also a theater.

Salted keg

The two-storey building is made up of two giant barrels for William Donahue, a comic book author, and his family. It is located in Grand Mar, Michigan. The construction was completed in 1930.

For 12 years he served faithfully as a summer house, but in the end the family got tired of tolerating curious tourists and fans, after which it changed the place of vacation.

For decades, the role of the owner visited an ice cream parlor and kiosk, a souvenir shop and a bookstore, a bookseller and a private house, a set for a small low-budget thriller of the 60s. No owner managed to hold out for more than twelve years. As a result, the ruins were bought by the local historical society. The house was restored and a museum of Donahue and his wife, a famous writer, was opened in it.

Haines Shoe House

Hines' house in Hallam, Pennsylvania, resembles a shoe in shape. It was created by an unknown architect at the behest of haberdashery Mylon Hines. He, according to legend, put shoes on the table and demanded to build him such a house.

Inside the house, which was simultaneously housing, workshop and advertising signage, there is a living room located on a pile foundation, a pair of bedrooms and a kitchen. On the second floor there is a master's room. Now the ice cream maker's shop is open in the house.

House-Kettle

The miniature house, similar in shape to a metal kettle of shaggy years, was also supposed to serve its owner not only as housing, but also as a sign - it was planned to open a shop on the first floor.

It's funny that Hurricane Ike, which destroyed Galveston almost completely in 2008, spared the structure: the only thing that had to be corrected was the glass and the front door.
