Linguistic experts say that every language used by humans becomes easier over time. The course on simplifying languages began in different periods – people tend to simplify their lives. Humanity is trying to write and communicate more easily so that the use of speech is not a complex process. Even the richest and most complex languages are slowly but surely being simplified and devoid of complex constructions and words that were used before.
This rule is followed by all but one of the world's dialects. It is not only not simplified, but, on the contrary, every year it becomes more complicated and more complicated. It's about the Chinese language.
Recently, scientists came together in an international group and conducted a linguistic study. They compared the complexity of Chinese characters from 5 historical eras – the first period was 1600 BC, and the last was our time. The visual complexity of Chinese symbols 3500 years ago was much simpler than it is now: then Asian tribes used pictograms similar to the writings of Ancient Egypt. After that, the Chinese began to use strokes in the set, and over time, the writing became similar to the usual characters. The language continued to become more complex year by year, and in 1956 the government even decided to introduce a simplified system, but even it did not change the situation radically. The researchers said that the visual complexity of modern hieroglyphs is much higher than that of symbols of past times.
Experts say that it will not be possible to simplify the Chinese language more: if the characters of China are simplified even more, logic may be lost in the language, and even native speakers will make frequent mistakes in it.
The Chinese have many similar characters that have different meanings, so they need to add new signage - this will lead to an even greater complication of the language. Scientists say that Chinese will continue to become more difficult every year.
