In foreign cities, the cost of living in student dormitories is growing, and with it the shortage of places is growing. So, in 2024, in private residences of some countries, the price of a studio room increased by 7.4%, which is considered the largest price jump since 2018, and the largest increase in annual rents was noticed in the United Kingdom - by 11.3%.
Despite the rise in prices, the number of people wishing to move into the residence for students is not decreasing, because the demand is many times higher than the residential reserves of universities. Today, for example, in Copenhagen, Cardiff, Leeds, three students apply for one place, in Amsterdam and Bristol - four, and in Barcelona, Lisbon and Sydney - eleven!
Presumably, the gap between supply and demand will narrow slightly by 2026, but, alas, not so much that there are enough places for all students.
