Saudi Arabia is acting decisively: private companies will now be able to run public schools! This step is part of a large-scale reform of the education system aimed at improving the quality of education and increasing the availability of thematic services. The main points of the new reform:
- For the first time, private firms are given the right to manage public educational institutions,
- The Government retains control over the recruitment and preparation of teachers,
- Already 60 public schools have been transferred to the management of the private sector,
- The new financing system will allow the development of school projects even in conditions of limited resources,
- Licensing procedures for private investors have been accelerated, which stimulates the development of the industry.
In addition to reforming management, the government plans to increase the variety of school types, open specialized sports, technological and cultural educational centers. However, Saudi Arabia faces serious challenges on the way to global change:
- About 214,000 additional school places will be needed by 2035,
- The capital, Riyadh alone, needs to increase the number of schoolchildren by 63,000.
To solve the problem of lack of places, the state is launching large-scale investment projects that are aimed at building new campuses and attracting foreign partners.
All these reforms coincide with the general modernization of the kingdom, indicated by the Vision 2030 program. Its goal is to turn Saudi Arabia into an advanced country with modern education and high standards of youth studying.
