In the United States, the merger of Northeastern University (Boston) and Marymount Manhattan College (Upper East Side, New York) has been completed. Following the consolidation, the New York campus officially received the name Northeastern University — New York City, becoming the 14th campus in the university's global network. Last month, the U.S. Department of Education gave its final approval of the deal, and the state of New York converted Northeastern University – New York City's temporary charter into a permanent one.
Northeastern University ranked #2 in 2024/25 for the number of international students among U.S. universities, trailing only New York University — it enrolled 22 465 students from abroad. The Northeastern global university system now spans institutions in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, giving students the opportunity to move between campuses, conduct international research, and participate in corporate preparation programs and professional internships.
New York fit perfectly into this system, significantly expanding Northeastern's opportunities. Everyone benefits: Marymount Manhattan College students now have access to everything Northeastern has to offer, including a network of 4,000+ industry partners, co-op programs, and experiential learning formats.
Marymount Manhattan College is known for programs in the creative disciplines and a liberal arts approach to education. Northeastern, for its part, excels in business, arts, media, design, technology, and engineering.
It is worth noting that following the merger, students gained access to two student residences (750 beds in total), and the number of academic facilities reached 55.
