The educational institution was founded in 1967 as a scientific, research and educational center of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The original name is a branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. The modern name was given in 1990.
Today Nakhchivan State University has 4,000 students, 400 teachers, 10 faculties and 42 specialties.
International fame is brought to the university by the Student Society of Free Entrepreneurs, the student operetta Arshin Mal Alan, and the football team.
NSU is a member of:
