The state is located in the southwest of the country and has been annually included in the TOP-10 for the admission of expat students for more than 20 years. Arizona State University in Tampa ranks 16th in the national ranking with 6.7 thousand international students (2021), followed by the universities of Northern Arizona in Tucson and Flagstaff, Mesa Community College and Scottsdale Community College in the town of the same name. In total, the share of foreigners in the state's universities is 3.7%.
For many years, the state's economy was based on the "five S"s": climate, cotton, cattle, citrus fruits, and copper (a play on words), but today 70% of GRP comes from transportation, trade, and high-tech manufacturing, from electronics and biotechnology to spacecraft. All this generates a serious demand for professional personnel, and local colleges and universities offer a wide range of popular programs in a variety of areas - from journalism and mass communications, bypassing criminology and criminal law, traditionally popular in the southern states, to engineering, business and architecture.
The structure of education in Arizona is atypical for the United States: 62% of students in the state study at three public universities, only 38% are in private and public universities.
