Education information

For over 800 years, Oxford has been considered the most famous educational institution in the world. The opportunity of studying here has an impeccable academic reputation. The location of the university, their colorful historical buildings, as well as the opportunity to enjoy wonderful landscapes are also great. Oxford is the second oldest university in the world. This is the first university to officially open in Britain. The exact date of this event is unknown, but there are suggestions that the history of Oxford begins in the 11th century.

Today, this university is a member of the TOP-20 universities in the UK (the elite Russell group).

The history of the institution is closely connected with the city where it is located. Oxford is located in the central part of the country near London (90 km).

In the center of the city are the towers of Carfax and the bell towers of the church of St. Mary. From here you can admire the picturesque paintings of Oxford.

Christ Church College was built during the reign of Henry VIII and is famous for its bell ("Old Tom"), which has been rung every evening for many years. The largest library in Oxford is the Bodleian. It has a collection of 6 million books.

Unlike most universities, education at Oxford is built on a system of assigning students to curators.

One of the main features of Oxford is the system of colleges that make up the University of Oxford. Each college is, in fact, an independent small university. On its territory there are libraries, classrooms, laboratories, student hostels. Some of the colleges are almost 1,000 years old and predate the idea of a single university. The administration works with all 30 colleges that are part of the University of Oxford. We help them work together as a single coherent mechanism; we create a single brand, while maintaining the identity of each college. We are forming a certain general principle of work, which concerns the admission of students, attracting investment in science, and so on.

Oxford students are divided into two large groups: undergraduates (bachelors) and postgraduates (masters - people who have already received higher education). In terms of the number of bachelors, we are a relatively small university - only about 20,000 students. At the same time, a lot of masters from all over the world come to us.

The competition is very big. There are subjects that are especially popular - for example, PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics), where we have a competition of 20 people per place. At the same time, there is less competition for learning languages.

All students are interviewed before admission. If they are British or European students, they are invited in person, but a Skype session is also possible for international students.

The main thing that professors are trying to understand at the interview is why you want to study this subject, why at Oxford, and how capable you are of meeting the challenges that this subject poses.

Teachers are looking for students who would force them to develop themselves - this ultimately makes the work of teachers interesting. So our task is not just to select the best students in the best schools, the task is to find those who really want to achieve great heights in the study of the subject, to expand the understanding of it at the academic level.

It's not as expensive to study here as it might seem. The British education system is arranged in such a way that each student receives a loan that covers the cost of education, as well as a loan that covers the cost of living. And the lower your family income, the more generous the loan can be.

Tuition for UK students is £9,000 per year. If your family income is below £60,000 a year, the first year fee is only £3,000.

The university also have many scholarships, grants for free education - both for bachelors and masters - much more than in many universities.

For foreign students, the cost of education is much higher - just like in other British universities. At the same time, many countries themselves provide scholarships to their students to study at Oxford. For example, many American students study with us according to this system. But among the bachelors of foreigners, we do not have so many, much more of those who come here already with a higher education. It is more accessible, more logical, and it is much easier to get a scholarship for additional education.

One of the advantages of studying at Oxford is that here you are given a lot of freedom in planning your time. There are lectures at our faculty, but they are not required to attend, and many students do not go to them - they prefer to study on their own. Sometimes you work in groups, doing collective projects, but more often it's individual work. And you usually get to know other students through some associations, at various social and sporting events.

There is a lot going on here. Oxford educates politicians on an international level, and many students join political parties or associations that belong to these parties during their studies.
