Brno University of Technology (VUT)

Brno University of Technology (VUT) is the second largest higher education institution in the Czech Republic. Brno University of Technology is a prestigious public institution founded in 1899. The university is located in the city of Brno.

In the national ranking, Brno University of Technology is in the TOP 5 best institutions, currently occupying the 4th place. Among international universities, he is at 634 positions.

The strongest and most popular direction in this institution is the direction "Engineering and Technology". Graduates of the institution without special difficulties are employed in prestigious companies around the world.

Space Applications requires laboratory classes and both individual and team projects. Students learn project management and teamwork skills. They must obtain the appropriate electrical qualification at the start of their studies. During laboratory classes, they must be able to operate measuring instruments and other equipment independently and safely.

To complete Space Applications, students must earn at least 120 ECTS credits: 106 from required courses, 9 from restricted electives, and 5 from free electives. Students can choose the latter from courses offered by their own faculty or other faculties at VUT. Any required course they fail must be taken again in the following academic year. Assessment includes exams in core subjects, a state examination, and the defense of an independently written master's thesis.

In the BoosterChallenge summer program, students develop their own innovative projects with the aim of creating a working product. They can participate with a new idea or build on a semester project or final thesis.

The Department of Internationalization and ESN VUT Brno organize Welcome Week for incoming international students. ESN VUT Brno also helps with everyday matters before and after arrival. A separate Welcome Service supports international doctoral students, researchers, staff, and their families, including those on short stays. Before departure, it helps with visa documents, housing, insurance, and travel arrangements. After arrival, it provides information about registration, medical examinations for employment, bank accounts, and language courses.

In addition to its faculties, the university includes:

• Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC VUT).

The final presentations at BoosterChallenge 2026 featured 36 student projects from across the university. RAGUARD, eloqee, Krabicák, Brndr, and UrbexVault received the highest scores.

• A team from the business and mechanical engineering faculties developed RAGUARD, a project that automates cybersecurity tasks for companies and had already been put into use,
• A student from the electrical engineering and communication faculty created Krabicák, an interactive robot with a customizable cardboard body.

The 4Slurries project led to Ceraprint, a technology company built on developments at VUT.

Students from the civil and mechanical engineering faculties became European cycle ball champions in the under-23 category. They defeated an Austrian pair 2:1 in the final, securing the Czech Republic's first European title in this category in 25 years.

• Over seven years, BoosterChallenge grew from a competition at the information technology faculty into a university-wide program bringing together teams from different faculties.

Housing

Pod Palackého vrchem Residence Hall is part of the university campus and accommodates 2,500 students. It offers single rooms with private facilities. Twin and triple rooms have their own bathroom, toilet, and refrigerator. Residents have access to a study room, a TV room, and bicycle storage. The electrical engineering, business, mechanical engineering, and chemistry faculties, along with the forensic engineering institute, are within a 10-minute walk.

Purkyně Residence Hall is close to the mechanical engineering faculty and the main campus. It offers twin and triple rooms with shared facilities. The mechanical and electrical engineering faculties are no more than five minutes away on foot, while the city center is about 10 minutes away by tram. At List, single and twin rooms share facilities with several other rooms. The city center is five minutes away by tram, the civil engineering faculty is within a five-minute walk, and the architecture and fine arts faculties are 20 minutes away by public transportation.

Mánes accommodates up to 266 students in single and twin rooms. Facilities are shared between two rooms, and each floor has a kitchenette. The chemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and business faculties, along with the forensic engineering institute, are within a 10-minute walk. All university residence halls have laundry facilities and dryers. High-speed internet is available throughout the residence halls.

Dining

The university has cafeterias, restaurants, pizzerias, cafés, bars, and snack bars. Menus include hot and cold dishes, made-to-order meals, vegetarian options, and desserts. Cashless payment is available, and no advance ordering is required. Dining options at the residences include Pizzeria Mozzarella, Kolejní cafeteria, Caffé Bar Piccolo with its summer garden, Purkyně cafeteria, and Fast Food Purkyně. The chemistry faculty has a student cafeteria and snack bar, the mechanical engineering faculty has the "Q" Restaurant, and the civil engineering faculty has a cafeteria, restaurant, and cake shop.

The university offers several dozen team and individual sports activities. Students can also exercise in their free time throughout the year, including exam periods and vacations.

• Canoes, kayaks, and inflatable rafts are available for activities on the Svratka river,
• Students can represent VUT at national and international university competitions, world university games, and EUSA events,
• Personal trainers, nutrition advisers, massage therapists, and physical therapists are available.

ESN VUT Brno organizes leisure activities for international students throughout the semester.

• Space Applications, a program focused on space technology, is accredited for 2021–2031,
• Space Applications students receive practical training at international companies and organizations in the space industry,
• After completing BoosterChallenge, participants can receive support from mentors and experts to continue developing their projects,
• Students can take up to two hours of free sports classes per week,
• The admissions office helps international applicants and students with admissions, online applications, recognition of foreign qualifications, visas, and university residence reservations.

The university's indoor and outdoor sports facilities cover 30,000 square meters, mostly on the Pod Palackého vrchem campus. They include:

• Two athletics tracks, an inline skating track, and tennis courts,
• An outdoor bouldering area and a disc golf park,
• An indoor bouldering hall,
• Two gymnasiums at the Purkyňova residence complex,
• The 600-square-meter Machina fitness center, with a gym, a martial arts hall with tatami mats, and a dance hall with mirrors,
• A 280-square-meter climbing wall at Machina and rooms for circuit training, indoor cycling, and suspension training,
• The university's own boathouse.

All teaching rooms at the electrical engineering and communication faculty have step-free access.

In order to become a student of the Brno Technical University, an applicant must provide a certificate / diploma from a previous place of study and pass an entrance exam. The proportion of enrolled applicants of the total number of applicants is usually about 30%. Not only local residents, but also foreigners can come here. There are no gender restrictions on admission.
