From 2026, public universities and colleges in Australia will become more accessible to foreigners - the country's government is increasing the number of quotas for this category of students. Additional places will not be issued automatically or distributed on a competitive basis: the leadership of each Australian university will be able to submit a personal request to the government if they want to receive new quotas. But before that, the university must prepare additional living rooms for foreigners and confirm its cooperation with states in Southeast Asia.
Another innovation in relation to foreign students: those non-residents who receive a diploma from a comprehensive school in Australia will be able to enroll in preparatory courses for admission to local universities, regardless of the allocated quota. Previously, this admission mechanism was not available because foreigners took entrance exams later than the distribution of all places ended.
In total, the Australian government will add 25,000 quotas for foreigners, that is, the total number of international students in the country will increase from 270,000 to 295,000.
