Classes are held in small groups, thanks to which all students receive enough attention from a qualified teacher: he helps pupils adapt to the school environment, learn to interact with classmates and adults, control themselves and care for others, work both as a team and individually. Description of Wycombe Abbey School in Nanjing, WAS Nanjing Private School
- Location: Nanjing, China,
- Year of foundation: 2021,
- Number of students: about 600,
- Language of instruction: English, Chinese,
- Type of education: blended.
Wycombe Abbey School in Nanjing (WAS Nanjing) — an international school with a British education system that educates children from 2 to 18 years old. It is part of the large academic group Wycombe Abbey, founded in London in 1896.
Opened in September 2021, WAS Nanjing quickly gained international recognition and the trust of local students. Today, around 600 pupils are studying here, most of whom are citizens of foreign countries. The teaching and administrative staff also includes representatives of many cultures and nationalities: more than half of the teachers have experience teaching abroad, all — higher academic qualifications. Since education at WAS Nanjing is conducted in two languages (English and Chinese), there are native speakers among the teachers. As students get older, they move to English-language education, already having a sufficient level of proficiency in Chinese, and respect for the culture of the country in which they study.
The WAS Nanjing curriculum is built on a combination of Chinese and British education systems, focused on preparing students for admission to leading universities in the UK. Starting from kindergarten, pupils follow the EYFS stage, begin studying IGCSE at 14 years old, and move on to the A-Level stage at 16, after which they receive an international diploma. However, the school is not only focused on achieving high academic results by students — all-round development, including creative, sports and social skills, is considered equally important aspect of the entire educational process. Students pay great attention to their hobbies and strengths, gradually developing them and turning them into career opportunities.
Educational process
Since joining WAS Nanjing, students are in an atmosphere of comprehensive support that focuses not only on academic success — creative, sports, and social development programs run parallel to the main curriculum, providing students with the opportunity to realize their talent in the best environment. Qualified teachers and specialized staff provide students with a variety of extracurricular activities that positively impact their achievements: thematic seminars, field trips, master classes, and introductions to leading specialists.
Special attention is paid to preparation for university admission: from grades 9 to 12, students attend individual meetings with a mentor where they learn more about universities abroad, application pathways, the structure of entrance exams, and other subtleties.
Faculties and colleges
The academic structure of WAS Nanjing consists of the following departments:
- Toddler&Kindergarten — preschool department: daycare and kindergarten for children aged 2-6,
- Primary School — elementary grades 1-6,
- Middle School — middle school grades 7-8,
- High School — high school: grades 9-12.
Accommodation, meals, prices
WAS Nanjing Residence accommodates 1028 students from grades 1 to 12, offering them excellent conditions for adaptation, building strong friendships, and further development of talents and hobbies.
Four-bed rooms are available in the residential buildings prepared for younger students, each equipped with two bathrooms. The rooms are well furnished, with particular attention paid to children's safety — single beds are installed in the rooms instead of bunk beds. Residences for middle and high school students include double rooms equipped with workspaces for each resident, a bathroom. Sometimes, single rooms are available in the buildings where students preparing for exams can stay.
In cooperation with healthy food provider ISS, WAS Nanjing provides students with three main meals and two snacks buffet-style every day. The menu consists of national cuisine dishes and recipes from many other countries, including dietary and hypoallergenic options.

Many leisure activities are included in the students' schedule as mandatory disciplines: for example, sports, music and painting are taught in specialized studios during school hours, and are available as optional classes after lessons for the most enthusiastic students. Thanks to the modern infrastructure of the campus, WAS Nanjing provides students with the opportunity to try their hand at such areas as:
