Will Australia "close" its universities from foreign students?

Will Australia "close" its universities from foreign students?

The Australian opposition risks undermining the country's economy: in election debates, it proposed to reduce the number of places that are allocated in universities for foreign students. At a recent forum attended by many Australian university leaders, Sarah Henderson, a representative of the opposition coalition, said that the country needs tough restrictive measures to support foreign students, especially in Sydney and Melbourne. Today, it is there that 2/3 of foreigners in Australia receive higher education.

Among Henderson's arguments against "friendship" with international students: the negative impact on the housing crisis and the number of failed quotas. But the representatives of universities themselves do not agree with such a strict assessment of foreigners and their role in the country! They believe that foreign students, on the contrary, help Australia develop, especially in the economic sector. Thanks to the existence of international education in Australia , the number of jobs has increased, there have been investments for research and more. Foreign students are also actively working during their studies, which helps to fill vacancies for which local residents are in no hurry to get a job - for example, foreigners take jobs in hotels and tourist locations.

What will happen to international education in Australia after the federal elections? We'll find out later.
