Each nation throughout its history formed certain traditions and habits. The same goes for Holland, located in Europe, so most of the trends are native European. For example, the Dutch do not use either curtains or curtains, although for us it is somehow strange.
Although, of course, not all residents of this country ignore window curtains. But when you visit the old part of Amsterdam or other cities, you will notice that many houses do not have curtains. In the evening, the Dutch turn on the lights, so any passer-by can see what is happening on the other side of the windows.

Interestingly, such a custom arose forcibly! According to historians, in the middle of the XVI century, when the country was captured by the Spaniards, the locals actively rebelled. The guerrilla war dictated the use of blackout curtains so that Spanish soldiers could not find the rebels. But the Spanish authorities soon realized the seriousness of the situation, officially prohibiting the use of any curtains.
Spain's power over Holland lasted no more than 6 years, but this was enough for the Dutch to learn to live without curtains. Even after the departure of the Spanish army, the inhabitants showed clean windows for their own safety.
How is it seen today?
Now everyone really does not know why residents prefer to do without curtains and blinds. Many citizens consider this unnecessary elements of the interior, only collecting dust, so in almost any house you can easily consider furniture, decor, even dishes.
Interestingly, some artists and other creators like to show their repairs to passing people. On the walls hang objects of painting, clearly visible from the street in the evening.
Among today's youth, it is still customary to use classic blinds so that passers-by cannot see pictures of their intimate life. However, such people are extremely few, and most often they live in fairly modern homes.
This is such an unusual tradition for us, formed due to certain historical events. We, on the contrary, as much as possible to hang the windows, do not like the views of onlookers, trying to deprive them of the pleasure of peeping. Moreover, over the past year, light-blocking curtains have gained popularity: they not only protect against unwanted views, but also create the right atmosphere for sleep and rest.
