University of Cambridge received a record donation — 250,000,000$

Large investments in education are increasingly becoming a tool of influence: Cambridge announced a record donation of £190,000,000. The contribution became the largest single donation to the university in its modern history.

The donation was made by investor Chris Rokos. The money will be directed toward the creation of a new School of Public Administration, which will prepare specialists to work in the field of international politics. The philanthropist himself explains his decision quite simply: education once had a profound impact on his life, and now he wants «to give back». Moreover, this is not just about charity: in his opinion, the new school could over time become an important element of what is known as the United Kingdom's «soft power» — influence through knowledge, ideas, and the studying of leaders.

Cambridge University has received large donations before: the previous record was set in 2019, when Steven Schwarzman donated $185,000,000 to the university. At the time, this contribution was called the largest since the Renaissance era.
