Université d'Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse (UAPV)

Université d'Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse (abbreviated as UAPV) is an educational institution of the state type in France, operating since the beginning of 1303. The main building of the university is located in Avignon on the territory of a small campus.

This higher educational institution is included in the list of TOP-80 of the best French universities. Also, from year to year, it ranks among the list of TOP the best universities in the world.

Avignon Université has established the Fondation d'Avignon Université, a foundation that carries out specific initiatives for students and faculty in partnership with companies and local authorities.

CROUS residences are offered primarily to scholarship students, but remaining places are available to other students as well.

Avignon Université is a mid-sized institution of higher education, enrolling around 8000 students a year. Its teaching staff numbers roughly 1000 senior faculty members.

University infrastructure

The university has a large library at its disposal and gives students the opportunity to live in a comfortable residence on a small campus. Besides the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the university is also a member of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), Campus France, and the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNeECC). The university is home to the UMR 1114 EMMAH research laboratory, which studies the Mediterranean environment and agrohydrosystem modeling.

Students can use the Ville Campus mobile app, which brings together information useful to the university community: events, news, housing, scholarships, and a campus map. The CROUS social service receives students by appointment at the Hannah Arendt campus on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and at the Jean-Henri Fabre campus on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in office C048 (CERI, Espace sanitaire et social).

Before registering with the Registrar's Office, students are required to pay the student and campus life contribution (CVEC).

Every year the selection of students is conducted by a special commission. In their decision, specialists rely on documents and data provided by all students in advance regarding academic performance. Students face a choice - to study in person or remotely. The University actively participates in international student and teacher exchange programs.

Université tuition fees

Each academic year is traditionally divided into two semesters. Getting a degree from this French university is hardly expensive.  At the same time, part of the costs can be returned by receiving a material reward for good academic performance (scholarship).

Mistral Excellence — this scholarship supports outstanding foreign students admitted to a master's program, covering the first year of study with an additional award for the second year if the student maintains excellent academic results in the first year (M1). It is granted for one year, with the opportunity for renewal depending on selection criteria.

France Excellence Eiffel — a monthly grant available at both master's and doctoral level. At the master's level it runs for a maximum duration of 24 months in the Master 1 program and 12 months in Master 2. At the doctoral level it also covers transportation, insurance, housing, and cultural activities separately from the monthly grant. New candidates in the first year of a thesis without co-supervision receive the scholarship for 36 months.

Applications for scholarships and/or housing through the unified student social record (DSE) must be submitted on a dedicated portal between January 15 and May 31. Students receiving a state scholarship at the university are exempt from tuition and the CVEC contribution but are still required to attend classes.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the university, together with the region, provided emergency financial support to students stranded abroad to help cover their return home.
