The Association of Universities in Great Britain is asking the government for permission to raise higher education fees due to inflation. British universities plan to increase the percentage of applicants among locals to 70% among young people under 25 by 2040 and with this help form long-term funding.
The proposal of the new strategy concerns, first of all, the expansion of the capabilities of universities and the simultaneous reduction of financial dependence on foreign students. The association calls on the government to take greater responsibility for the financing of the Turing program and the possibility of joining the Erasmus program. Updating the approach to the educational system should contribute to economic growth, in particular, increase the number of qualified doctors and nurses, environmental specialists.
In addition, the Association of UK Universities proposes to develop a modern global strategy for universities: in theory, it will ensure a sustainable level of expat student recruitment, help review immigration costs and, as a result, provide that talented scientists, entrepreneurs and technical staff are attracted to the UK.
