The international network of language schools BSC Education has announced the termination of its operations and the start of liquidation proceedings: 5 schools will close in the UK (in Brighton, Edinburgh, London, York, Manchester), and one more — in Malta. The centers operated year-round, welcoming both adults and children, and offered separate courses for teachers of English.
BSC's division in Kuwait continues to operate, as it is a separate legal entity.
What happened?
This is already the third major closure this fall: in September, EC English Language Centres ceased operations, followed by similar news from the Canadian ILAC Education Group.
The English language teaching (ELT) market is going through tough times: the industry has been losing volume since 2025. One of the main reasons is the tightening of visa policy, which is reducing student mobility and the influx of international students — and it is precisely these students who serve as the resource base for language schools' operations.
What will happen to the students?
According to the company, its main task right now is to help students who are currently studying and to process bookings already made. In total, new learning centers are now being sought for 150 people. In Britain, the Student Emergency Support (SES) option has been devised for this: it helps find a language school that is just as good, equally accredited and vetted, at no additional cost and taking into account each student's individual needs. The UK is now planning to supplement and expand the support program in order to better protect students in such cases, as well as to protect their payments.
