Language schools Global Village Hawaii and Institute of Intensive English (IIE Hawaii) will merge under the new name Global Village IIE Hawaii and will operate with the support of the Japanese company Housenka Group, which works in the fields of education and healthcare. The new school will be more financially stable and will attract additional investment to make student learning more effective and comfortable.
How the new school will operate
Global Village IIE Hawaii will be located on the Global Village Hawaii campus, with ocean views, close to the Waikiki area. This is truly a merger of schools, meaning the new center will gain professional expertise from both language schools (with a combined teaching experience in English of about 60 years!), access to international partnerships, student services, developed extracurricular programs, and organized accommodation options. Global Village IIE Hawaii retains its CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) accreditation.
The range of educational programs is set to become broader than what the schools offered before:
- General English courses,
- Preparation for Cambridge exams,
- Programs for students aged 50+,
- Educational leave — Bildungsurlaub,
- Preparation for entry into school, college, or university,
- Mini-group classes and individual lessons,
- The combined English in Paradise course,
- Combined English courses with other activities: surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, hula dancing, and playing the ukulele.
At this point, it really does look like a step forward: toward more balanced and engaging learning in Hawaii, even more effective English courses, and more interesting options for extracurricular leisure and recreation.
