Kindergarten
- Age – 3-4 years,
- The duration of study is 2 years.
The focus is on developing key learning skills, including listening, speaking, concentration, perseverance, and teamwork. Teachers take care of the development of children's early communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
Pupils are given the opportunity to consolidate the necessary skills through a combination of adult-led tasks and play activities. Children are cared for by a dedicated team of nurses and classroom assistants led by a qualified teacher.
Junior School
- Age – 5-6 years,
- The duration of study is 2 years.
Lessons are gradually becoming more formal, including informal mat time and board games, and opportunities for pair or group work are being added. By the end of 2nd grade, children can write independently, in coherent and legible handwriting, and read fluently. Math is taught through a combination of individual assignments, mental arithmetic, and hands-on activities that prepares children for the 3rd grade curriculum.
High school
- Age – 7-10 years,
- The duration of study is from 3 years.
Children have the opportunity to attend many more extracurricular activities, preparatory classes and swimming lessons, the school day becomes longer, and the number of homework assignments increases.
Learning is based on improving and expanding skills and knowledge, with a special emphasis on English and mathematics. Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) allows children to discuss issues such as prejudice and discrimination, and to consider the more personal aspects of the subject, such as relationships and friendships.
Middle Grades
- Age – 11-15 years old,
- The duration of study is from 4 years.
All students follow a core curriculum consisting of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, English, Geography, History, PSHCE, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Physical Education, and Physics. Students study French, German, Spanish, Latin, classical civilizations and English, and practice communication skills. Students choose three creative and technical subjects: Art and Design, Computing, Design Technology, Dramaturgy, Food Technology, or Music.
Sixth Form
- Age – 16-18 years old,
- The duration of study is from 2 years.

Pupils are given greater attention in small groups of pupils in grades 12 and 13, with the former learning from the latter. The teacher monitors the academic performance and well-being of the students. In addition, it is LGS faculty who submit applications for admission to the university, based on a thorough and specialized analysis of each student's career guidance.

Leicester Grammar School (LGS) is a modern, forward-looking, co-educational day school for 10-18 year olds. It was founded in 1981, following the dissolution of many of the city's state-funded secondary schools. LGS includes Leicester Grammar Junior School (Junior School) and LGS Stoneygate (Senior School): the majority of junior high school graduates are accepted into high school, smoothly transitioning here to their next educational stage.
Educational process
Studying at LGS is balanced, challenging, and creative, with classes held in groups throughout the year, providing students with the academic, extracurricular, and personal skills they need to succeed in exams and continue their studies.
All students learn Latin from Grade 7, German or Spanish to choose from, and in Grade 9, students can choose an additional language. While the focus is on academic and traditional subjects up to A-Level, the curriculum also includes a variety of practical and creative subjects: Art and Design, Computing, Design Technology, Drama, Food Technology and Music.
Accommodation, meals, prices
LGS is a day school and does not provide boarding services.
Hot meals for school lunch are served in the cafeteria, with the option to choose between a hot meat dish (two options) and vegetarian options. Meal times are determined by school counselors and teachers. Students can bring a packed lunch in a branded lunch box, including a drink in a plastic bottle or cardboard packaging – glass bottles, jars and thermoses are not allowed at school. Packed lunches are also served in the dining room.
Activities Leicester Grammar School
LGS offers a wide range of activities to enrich the day-to-day curriculum. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Program is available (Bronze Award from Grade 10 and Gold Award from Grade 12). Sixth Form students who are aspiring entrepreneurs can join the Young Enterprise Scheme course and start their own companies.
A strong music department has been established here: it all starts with an introduction to music, when all seventh-grade students learn the instruments of the orchestra and try to play them before choosing the one in which they will specialize for two semesters. LGS has more than 25 ensembles, including three orchestras, three choirs, two big bands, two large brass bands, and a folklore group. Musical groups perform both at school and at city events.
In LGS, modern and spacious art facilities are open and operating: here students of the school can attend a black box studio, art classes, a ceramic workshop, and make prints. A specialized art studio for Sixth Form students has been created separately.
More than 50 teams represent LGS in major sports: netball, rugby, football, hockey, cricket, athletics and tennis (team and individual sessions). A large number of pupils represent Leicestershire and regularly represent the school and county in regional and international competitions, with school teams of all age groups winning competitions at district and regional level.
Various events are regularly organized in the main hall: theatrical performances are staged, concerts are held.
Students visit theaters, museums, and places of historical and geographical interest. Children 3-4 years old attend a PGL tour of local attractions every year, and children 5-6 years old visit Outward Bounds annually. Every two years, a tour of the high school choir and a tour of France are organized.
Facilities and equipment at Leicester Grammar School
Since 2008, LGS has been located on London Road, Great Glen: it houses one main teaching facility and five additional buildings. The main building includes a dining room, an assembly hall (St. Nicholas), a drama studio, and a hall for musical concerts. All classrooms are located in five smaller buildings. The school has state-of-the-art IT equipment, sports fields, music and art facilities, and an on-site café that is accessible to all Sixth Form students, staff, parents, outside club members, and visitors. Students who are not Sixth Form high school students can only visit the café if accompanied by their parents.
The sports center has a large sports hall with six courts, indoor cricket and table tennis lanes, several sports fields, an indoor swimming pool, a gym, a dance studio and a fitness room.

The school year at LGS runs from September to June. The year is divided into 3 trimesters, between which vacations are organized:

Enrolment process
When applying to LGS, the candidate needs to take the following steps:
- Registration: filling out the online form,
- Campus Visit: Applicants are invited to meet with the director and take a tour.
- Entrance exams: you will need to pass a number of tests in both written and oral form: in logical reasoning, English and mathematics.
- For those entering Sixth Form classes, there will be an additional test in 2-3 natural sciences that they want to study at GCSE.
- An interview to understand the child's interests related to co-education, the reasons for choosing the school and the approach to learning.
- Offer of a seat.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
The main LGS requirement for candidates is to successfully pass a series of entrance exams. The main entrance exam is organized at the beginning of the winter term (in January) and involves the passing of three main subjects: oral reasoning, English and mathematics.
Admission to the Sixth Form is based on the results of the candidate's interview with the Director of LGS and the Admissions Committee. Offers of a place also depend on the GCSE grades obtained.
Scholarships Leicester Grammar School
There are the following types of scholarships at LGS:
- Academic: for grades 7-11 are provided at 5% of the tuition fee, Sixth Form - up to 25%.
- Musical. Scholarships for music classes from grades 7 to 11 are provided in the amount of 5% of the tuition fee, Sixth Form - up to 25%.
- Theater: from 7th to 11th grade, they are provided in the amount of 5% of the tuition fee, Sixth Form - up to 25%.
- Arts Scholarships: For grades 7-11 available at 5% of tuition, Sixth Form up to 25%.
