How long does primary education in England UK last?

Due to the high standards of academic knowledge, the level of prestige and demand around the world, the British education system has been occupying a leading position for decades. Forward-thinking parents consider studying in England for their children from an early age as a promising and fundamental stage for higher education and career building.

Primary school in England, which is called Primary School is the starting stage of schooling: 5-11 years, less often 4-13 years. Compared to other countries, in the United Kingdom, children begin to attend school quite early: often from the age of 3-4, children go to preparatory classes, and at the age of 5 they are transferred to a basic comprehensive school. For children who start their studies from the age of 4, the first year is called Reception Class, and the first year directly in primary school is Called Year 1.

At the heart of the British system, there is a division of primary classes into two stages according to age gradation:

  • KS1 (5-7 years)
  • KS2 (7-11 years).

The educational process in school includes the study of ten subjects. From the first year, the fundamental language is english, reading, writing and counting (the basics of mathematics). In the future, the program includes natural sciences (biology, basics of chemistry, physics), humanitarian subjects, computer classes and foreign languages.

The level of knowledge of students is assessed by the results of the semester (usually Standard Assessment Tasks),and intermediate tests and exams are periodically conducted.

By its nature, School in the UK resembles a kindergarten: children spend a lot of time on walks, play sports and creativity, play, sing, etc.  In England, education up to 11 years is considered preparatory, the next step will be secondary school.

Studying in school, the child receives socialization skills: from an early age he learns to communicate and get along with other children, delved into the learning process and learns the world. Another favorable factor for foreigners will be the study of English - thanks to full immersion in the language environment by the end of primary school, children already know it at the level of a native speaker.
